Lens Correction Error - Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G DX ED VR

Post by Charlie77 »

AfterShot Pro 3 version 3.2.0.205 x64 - Windows 7

The Nikon Lens Identification ID for Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G DX ED VR lens is shown in the lens-db.xml file as
<Exif provider="Nikon" id="66 40 2D 44 2C 34 6C 02"/>
And should be
<Exif provider="Nikon" id="A4 40 2D 8E 2C 40 BF 0E"/>

The len-db.xml file is found in Windows 7 at
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel AfterShot Pro 3\supportfiles\Profiles\LensProfiles

In order to make this change visible and to get AfterShot Pro 3 to automatically display my Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G DX ED VR lens in Lens Correction I had to delete any lens profiles that referenced this lens from
C:\Users\(Your Home Directory)\AppData\Local\Corel\AfterShot Pro 3\LensProfiles

I love my Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G DX ED VR lens that is matched to a Nikon D7100 both presents from my loving wife. This lens is razor sharp, but unfortunately does have distortion. The D7100 easily correct this in JPG mode, but I like to shoot in RAW mode. I also like AfterShot Pro 3 to process my RAW file. Now that AfterShot recognizes my new lens I am able to easily produce better finished photos from RAW files than the JPG photos that come out of my camera.

Now I hope the next AfterShot update will fix the problem where the lens name does not get written into the EXIF date of the 16bit TIF file I transfer from AfterShot Pro 3 to Paint Shop Pro X9 to edit and print.

I applied the correction mentioned to the lens-db.xml file (open in notepad or word and saved it), however in the AppData\Local\Corel\AfterShot Pro 3 directory, there is no LensProfiles folder for me...
