Multitrim tool crashes every time I try to use it - VS9.5

Post by wsalopek »

Hi folks,

I am trying to edit some drone footage, shot in 4K...each clip is perhaps a few minutes long, and I want to cut out a lot of each clip. I want to use the multitrim tool, but each time I use it, it crashes...it never works for more than a couple minutes. I have tried using multitrim but WITH and WITHOUT a proxy file. (Does the multi trim tool use the proxy? Performance seemed the same.)

I've seen the multitrim tool crash at least a couple different ways:

1) The preview window freezes, and the timeline keeps going. Of course with the preview frozen, there is no way to use the tool.

Or

2) The whole program freezes, and needs restarted.

Any ideas?

Thanks...

These crashes are terrible to have and effectively get around them. There is obviously a bug that happens when you do what you are doing. A quick fix is not going to happen, so it's best to figure out how to get around it to get what you want done.

I suggest using the scissors cut and the clips and perhaps even doing each video clip separately and saving the cut video clip. Doing this for each video clip and then assembling them later. I realize this may not be practical if you have way too many cuts and way too many video clips.

If you have the time, it would help Corel get to the bottom of this bug if you were to get one small video clip and describe precisely how to make the program crash. Then sharing this video clip will allow someone here to reproduce the problem, and we would report it to Corel.

Hi
I agree with Al

You should report this to Corel Support.

Provide a sample of your video on a sharing site, and if we can replicate the problem will report to Corel.

You should make sure your Project Properties match your video files properties, I would have thought the program would have done that, but please check.

I don’t use Multi-Trim but have always cut the clips on the timeline, or use the F3 / F4 trim options to remove end frames. I can only assume that will work without problems.

But as we say a sample would be useful.

Trevor and Al...thanks for that.

I didn't have the project and video files properties matched. Maybe that's the issue. On the other hand, I have mixed video properties...1080/2.7/4k all in the same project, so maybe setting project properties to 4k won't make a difference...anyway, I will try.

You haven't given us any information about your computer. With a lot of 4K material in your project, multi-trimming that would require a fair amount of computer power. So it might just be a case of the computer not being able to cope with the demand...

Hi Bill

XAVC-S editing.
Another post identified a problem with audio repeats, Corel provided a fix yesterday.

I would advise you to apply the fix to see if it improves things for you when trimming 4K video.
If that does not improve things then you should contact Corel Support explaining your problem.

This is the link to the post, you should read the entire post.
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 20#p336863

If you provide a sample I will test that and if I can replicate will also inform Corel.

Since you mentioned XAVC-S, I guess you are using a Sony 4K camcorder like I do.

X9 (and X8, too) has issues in handling XAVC-S from my Sony AX53 camcorder and it crashes (and has audio glitches) frequently. Interestingly, X9 can handle 4K XAVC-S mp4 files from a Sony A7R2 without issue. Corel needs to do their homework on testing their software with these popular video sources. My workaround is to re-save/re-render the AX53's mp4 files using another video editors before use.

Will Corel make it right next time?

Have you informed Corel Support of the problems you are having.?

I am sure Corel would like to know about any problems in editing XAVC-S video, but unless they are informed then yes video types may be missed.
I am sure Corel did there homework but cannot keep up with new cameras where the manufacturers have tweaked the codecs.
Get it right first time every time just does not work, we don't live in an ideal world.

I informed Corel regarding the audio repeat as I could replicate the problem, Corel did provide a fix, very quick fix, but cannot do that unless they know.

Help them to help you.....
