I have completed two videos and have saved them to 'My Projects' as VSP files. When I attempt to open them in VS9.5 a dialogue box opens that informs me that the original file doesn't exist or that, when I try to relink, that there is a file mismatch.
If I 'Save' shouldn't the video file go direct into the library, or, if I 'Save as' shouldn't the file be saved as a VSP file into wherever I put it? I have tried saving the video to a back up disc but I get the same response when I try to open the file. Surely these files should open under 'Capture from digital media' and 'Capture' without any trouble.
Is there something that I'm overlooking? Rolly.

Re: VSP Files.
When you "Save As" your project file (with extension vsp), no video file is created and saved. All that is saved is the project file which contains no video whatsoever but only the resources and instruction to render the video file when requested under Share. "Save" does the same thing only it will overwrite the existing vsp project file.
"Capture" does not "Open" project files.
"Capture" does not "Open" project files.

Re: VSP Files.
As canuck has said, a .vsp file contains no video. It is only a small text file which tells Video Studio what video is in the project, where the clips are stored, what other files (audio, subtitles, filters) have been used in the project, and any other editing which may have been done. If you move or delete any of the files used in a project, then when you reopen the vsp file it will ask to be relinked, and if you have in fact deleted any of the files then the vsp in effect becomes useless. Moreover, the vsp will only work with Video Studio.
When you go to Share after you finish editing and save your vsp file, then Share will lead to production of an actual video, whether as a entire clip of what was contained in the project or as disc or ISO file or DVD/Blu-Ray folder (or even an SD card). But, apart from the disc output options, the video is already created and saved wherever your working folder is located. It can be copied and saved again on another drive if you want. But that is quite separate from what a vsp is created and saved for.

Re: VSP Files.
Many thanks for that, Ken., that explains a lot. I was unable to find anything like your explanation in the Help manual. Much appreciated. Likewise to you, Canuck. It all helps, especially when learning and feeling one's way about. Cheers, Rolly.
