WinDVD 12 does not start on Windows 10 x64

WinDVD 12 does not start on Windows 10 x64. Only for a fraction of second the cursor changes to indicate the program starts. No error message neither on screen nor in Event Viewer.

Have you had any previous version of WinDVD installed & if so did you remove it prior to installing the new version?
Do you have any AV software installed & did you disable it prior to installation?
Have you tried opening the program with administrator privelidges - right click on the icon & choose open as admin?

The answer to all of your questions is yes. Moreover, I've tried to reinstall WinDVD several times. After clean install it asks me a single time to choose types of files that should be tied with WinDVD. But the dialog does not respond to any input, and after it's closed WinDVD stops immediately.

Months later after the last post:

Today I bought WinDVD 12 and I'm having the exact issue. Patching or reinstalling does nothing. Registry cleaner didn't fix it, in case.

I submitted a ticket, but would still like to post here in case someone knows a solution.

I hate to double post, but I figured out my issue.

The audio software for my sound card was preventing WinDVD from starting.

I have an Asus ROG Xonar Phoebus. When I close the provided software running in the tray, WinDVD starts up fine, no issue. I can even restart the audio software again after WinDVD is up.

So check to see if your audio software, or something running in the tray, is causing this.
