You better install the boxed first and check what version you have.
Don't rush into the updates.
I'm using 19.2.

A question

Does VS X9 support two monitors on the PC. If yes how to confugure the monitors to get the film on one of them and the rest on the second one?

Thank you!

Yes you can do that. Look in the upper-left corner of each panel and you should see some horizontal dots or nodes. Click and drag to un-dock a panel. Then just drag it to another monitor. Then can be resized by dragging the corners or the top/bottom edges. When you get it setup how you like, then go to the Settings Menu>Layout Settings>Save To and select one of the 3. You'll notice there are keyboard shortcuts for Saving ALT+1, ALT=2 and ALT+3. CTL+1,CTL+2, and CTL+3 allows you to quickly change between layouts. You can also double-click on the upper-left corner and the panel will return to it's default location, or where you have it set in one of the 3 layouts (if you moved it).

If you install the disc version it will not automatically run, at least my version does not.
I accessed the disc to run the Web Installer ( VideoStudio.exe)

That will download the latest Service Pack providing you have an internet connection.
The program will install followed by the patch.
Video studio should run without problems, no further updates will be required.

You can manually install the program by accessing the 64 bit / Ultimate/Pro folder and double clicking Setup.exe.
The program will install but will not launch till you install the service patch.
So may be best running the installer via VideoStudio.exe

Hope that helps

Use Windows File Explorer (Win10) to read what is on the disk and run the EXE

Ken -- what do you need the web installer for? To install the program or to search for updates? If the former, it should install straight from disc -- see John-T-Smith's link re Auto Start if running setup.exe does not appear as an option when you insert the disc in your disc player.

If in fact you have already installed the program and want to search for updates, then simply go to Help to Search for Updates or go to Corel.com to get available updates there.

Hi Kenneth

I do not think the auto installation works for the disc version, but if you can get that working that's fine, however you should be able to view the discs content.
That should have the installation folders along with a VideoStudio.exe file, that file should use the programs logo.
I advise that you copy the entire contents to your hard drive, maybe 3 Gb or so.
Then run the installation from those files saved to the hard drive.

The Video Studio .exe will launch the web installer, add your serial number then progress to last window.
Similar to this image:

You need an internet connection to download the service pack otherwise the program will not run, till you manually install the hotfix2 ( no longer available as a download from Corel).

You can install manually as earlier versions of video studio, but you will need the Hotfix 2 to get the program running re windows updates problems back in February 2016.

Re: Installing boxed version of VS9

I approached installation with trepidation remembering all the things I read in this great forum over the last year. During the course of install I was connected to the internet. At one stage SP 19.5 was downloaded via the disc.
The autoplay box showed, I Clicked open folder to view files using Windows Explorer (win 7).Thinking I needed to run the web installer I then looked for VS.exe but could not access it whatever I did. I tried to add my serial number 4 times but it kept telling me it was invalid. At one stage I was looking at a window with my serial number in it and 9 items selected(not by me) including all the 32 bit components as well. After that and many other issues, as I mentioned before, I then launched VS9 as normal with no problems.
Hope this is of some interest as I was expecting a response after posting that VS was up and running without needing to get involved in any of the issues mentioned above by others

Hi Kenneth

After your previous response that you had managed to run the program I did not think it required a reply, but good to hear that you have the program running.

The web installation process can be a little confusing, certainly when it starts downloading files again.
But you have the program running and that’s what counts.
From now on I will call you “Arnie”
