What are good ways to sync audio and video
Hi,
I'm trying to figure out the best ways to sync audio and video clips. I have VS Ult. Pro x9. I just want to get suggestions for the best ways to do it so I don't waste time with trial and error.
Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.
Actually what I'm making art tutorial videos and I'm using a camera to film the painting, another camera to film the palette. Then I'm using a lapel mic to voice over after the video is shot.
I don't see how I would be able to record the sound in real time since it would be all out of sync when I edit the video.
I hope this makes sense.

You've seen the video clappers, those boards used when a movie is being made? It's held in front of or where the camera(s) can see it, and the top one is slammed or closed which will make a clap sound. Well you don't need one of those, but you do need some way to mark the start. Easy way is to clap your hands where all cameras can see and hear. You then have visual and audio marking a point for syncing. You can even use the wave-form to help sync.

Two pieces of wood clapped together before filming. There used to have a video example called « Corel VideoStudio pro X5 Ultimate - Synchronizing Multiple Camera Angles and Recorded Audio » on YouTube, but I can't find it anymore.

Hi
Record your video and audio together in real time.
Use CVSX 9 Multi Camera Editor
This will sync all recordings video and audio.
It will allow you to choose the audio stream, so you can choose the best audio sound.
You can choose which camera recordings to use, switching camera angles.
There is also a Picture in Picture option, that will allow you to choose the main video and P-in-P
Once opened in Video studio your selected clips will show in the timeline, allowing you to complete the edits, maybe fade-in / out the P-in-P

I keep a small bicycle bell in my bag. Cost around $7. One option is Mirrycle Incredibell Original Bicycle Bell.
Turn on all recording devices the say "date time, shot description" then click bell.
Once clips are on the timeline click the thows the audio wave files and line them up.

Re: What are good ways to sync audio and video
If you have live sound on both cameras, follow Trevor's advice and use the Multi Camera Editor. This will align the two videos with the "common" sound track.
Actually what I'm making art tutorial videos and I'm using a camera to film the painting, another camera to film the palette. Then I'm using a lapel mic to voice over after the video is shot.
I don't see how I would be able to record the sound in real time since it would be all out of sync when I edit the video.
If you are only supplying a voice over to your video.
First edit the video to give you the full picture sequence you want on your video. Then click on voiceover and record your commentary while you are watching the video replaying. The voiceover will appear as audio blocks in the voiceover timeline. (Voiceover is in the Record/Capture Option panel. (cine reel and red dot above the timelines))
You can start and stop the voiceover whenever you want and this will show up as blocks of audio on the voiceover timeline, these blocks can be selected and be moved to align with the video clips if necessary.
If you are also including background music to your video, you can use Audio Ducking to quieten the music when you are speaking. Apply the Audio Ducking to the music track only.

If you use Multi Camera Editing you would not need the bell, the program will automatically sync to the wave form.delaluz wrote:I keep a small bicycle bell in my bag. Cost around $7. One option is Mirrycle Incredibell Original Bicycle Bell.

You can use a flash, search the frames to locate the flash on all camera angles, place a marker on each flash then the timelines will line up on those markers.
Its just a matter of choosing a sync option.
But if you are trying to match like for like sound streams then use MCE.
its new to CVSX9, may need a few attempts to understand the process, but that's just the learning curve, I have to say its not difficult to use, maybe not that intuitive but not difficult.

Re: What are good ways to sync audio and video
There are a lot of good technique to sync the audio and video images. I am a professional writer currently working in the research paper writing service. I have already made some videos for my projects using some modern tools. That was really a nice task.

I rather got the impression that rkstudio is adding the voiceover after the video had been recorded so MCE would not be of much use in this case. MCE is only of use if you have a common audio track in each camera and MCE can use that to line up the video.

Re: What are good ways to sync audio and video
Is there a way to crop the video more to the exact point where you want it? It seems like you can only crop in certain increments, and that makes syncing up your video to the soundtrack very difficult. Just wondering if I am missing something when editing that would make it more precise. And please don't tell me to get another program. WMM has been pretty good for me(except for the video/audio edit part). That and I can't afford any program you have to pay for right now. Just want to know if there is anything I can do about this in windows movie maker.

Doubt it. VideoStudio has ripple editing, which means you can lock the time tracks together so an edit on one track will carry the other locked tracks with it. For example an audio track will respond to a cut in a video track and keep the tracks synchronised.
I accept your concern about buying a more comprehensive video editor but the fact is that many commercial video editors have options like this to support more complex editing.

Re: What are good ways to sync audio and video
Video is not a continuously moving image - it is a set of still images projected very quickly - at a speed depending on your video format -- the slowest being 25 fps (frames per second) for the standard PAL format - you CANNOT cut a picture - no video format will allow part frames
so in a PAL video you can trim to 1/25th of a second and in an NTSC format you can cut to 1/30th of a second - do you really need to trim less than that ?

Re: What are good ways to sync audio and video
Hi Walter
Welcome to the forums……..
Not sure I understand what you are trying to do?
Explain what type of video you are using and what audio?
Are they using the same sound recordings, so you wish to sync those, if so use MCE.
If you have a video and audio clip that have different content, syncing those is done manually by moving the clips on the timeline.
If you view the timelines in Sound Mixer, that will display the wave form which may help in identifying the audio.
Cropping a video clip.
If we use the scissors to cut our video clip, we can delete the unwanted sections.
If the clip is on the top track then the remaining clips will shift left to fill the space.
If the clip is on an overlay track then the clips will remain in position.
As I say I am not sure exactly what you are trying to do?
