DEDICATED video memory

What do you mean by dedicated video memory?

Just something that's useful to know when buying a computer. Shops may offer bargain basement prices on a unit which has "32 or 64 Mb shared graphics". This means that your graphics memory is shared, or part of, the basic (?512 Mb) RAM of the computer. For graphic-intensive operations this is not the way to go- the more video memory you try to use, the less RAM is available. Much better to have a graphics card with its own, onboard, memory - often 64 or 128 Mb these days, or even better.

Generally speaking, you don't need a very sophisticated video card for video editing since the card does not have much involvement in bringing the pictures to the screen, unlike in 3D gaming etc. However, have onboard video that shares the system RAM is asking for trouble.
It is advisable to steer clear of any onboard devices, video, audio etc.
