I purchased a BBC DVD on eBay and it's in PAL format not NTSC. When I try to capture the DVD in VS x9 "Import From Digital Media", I get the error "There is no valid content."
I've changed the settings in VS to PAL in Settings/Performance/General/TV System, Edit/Apply Color Filter and Performance/Video Proxy Options. I changed my PC, Win7Pro to Region 2 which is required to watch the video in Media Player. I could do a screen shot in Media Player but I'd rather not have to tie up the machine screen capturing a one hour video.
I've checked the Forum for an answer but I couldn't find anything that directly related to conversion. Most solutions require being able to read the DVD in the first place which I can't do in VS I've tried copying the VOB files to convert them to MPEG files but the disc is copyrighted. I used to have copyright software but abandoned it as I pretty much buy all my media.
I apologize if I'm missing the obvious here. Ironical given Corel is a UK company and I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to use their product to run a video in their format.

Re: Convert Commercial PAL DVD to NTSC
The answer is indeed obvious, and you gave it yourself. The disc is copyrighted and Video Studio does not allow pirating of copyright discs.

Re: Convert Commercial PAL DVD to NTSC
Oh dear. So converting a legitimately purchased commercial DVD to a format I can view is considered "pirating?" I guess I'll have to capture it on screen shot which, of course, wouldn't be pirating. Thank you for your input.

Yes it is a violation to alter copyrighted material.

Re: Convert Commercial PAL DVD to NTSC
Hi
I live in the UK and using Pal, yet all my Pal DVD players support both NTSC and Pal, I don’t think that is the case using a NTSC player, and my cheapest player seemed to play more video formats.
However one player did need a tweak of the menu to allow playing both formats, so I would advise having a look at your menu setup.
I cannot remember what the settings was called but certainly not described as Pal or NTSC, but some odd name?
Anyway worth a look, or purchase a Pal DVD player.

Re: Convert Commercial PAL DVD to NTSC
You could copy the files from the dvd to a laptop (I used DVD Decryptor) & then play the dvd files on the laptop with something like Cyber Link Power DVD.
I bought a 3-4 DVD series based on 2 Wilbur Smith novels that were in PAL & watched them this way. I connected the laptop to a TV via the HDMI out.
