Re: compositing with 2 video files
Hello delaluz -
Your explanation was fine, I got it right away.
You're making this too hard for yourself as all the tools are right there in VS. Tomorrow I'll work up a short sampler of what I understand you want to do. I'll use a short video slide show of my pictures - just substitute a video clip in place of my slide. It's just a media object so VS doesn't care what format it is as long as it is compatible.
Regards,
GEWB

Re: compositing with 2 video files
Hello delaluz -
Take a look at this sample video - is it something like what you want to do?
https://vimeo.com/195923493
I used a video of a slide show then used images in overlay. Each of those overlays were manipulated for motion, size, opacity, frame overlay, etc.

GEWB

Re: compositing with 2 video files
OK thanks to all the input I figured it out (for the most part).
Please refer to BrianCee's Dec 15 12:40:
Brian, in the bottom screen "cropped" the middle dancer from the top video & placed the dancer in the top right corner & made the image larger. This is what I was trying to do. When I tried the cropping video there were several cropping defaults that I had to adjust to get what I wanted. The default cropping effect assumes that you want to show the image as it is cropped and not the image after it has been cropped.
1. I dropped the the stock "cropping" video effect on top of the overlay track
2. I clicked "customize filter"
3. I deselected fill color
4. I grabbed the dotted line selection box & dragged it over the singer I wanted to isolate
5. I used the "height" and "width" input boxes to shrink the selection box to "zoom in" on the singer. Please note that when I this the aspect ratio of the singer "distorted". I did this for the first key frame and the last key frame
6. I clicked the OK box on the "customize filter" panel
7. When I viewed the overlay video on the preview screen the singer's aspect ratio was "distorted". To correct this I adjusted the yellow "handles" on the preview screen until it looked ok
8. I then moved the overlay video where I wanted it on the final screen.
Questions:
Q1 When I used the "height" & "width" controls in step 5 the image distorted. I had to correct this in the preview screen step 7. Is there any way to preserve the aspect ratio in step 5? This would be preferable because when I "fixed" the aspect ratio in step 7 I adjusted it by eye which was probably not exact.
Q2 I applied a mask frame to the overlay clip & I didn't get the effect I wanted. Because I "cropped" the video the mask didn't work like it does on an un-cropped video. I tried this by applying the mask before an then applying the mask after applying the cropping effect. Neither way worked. Any suggestions for applying a "soft edge mask" to the cropped portion of the overly video?
Again thanks for everyone's help to date.

Re: compositing with 2 video files
Just my luck. Vimeo appears to have made some "upgrades" over night and things broke. There are dozens of posts on their forum so my account isn't alone. In fact none of my videos work!BrianCee wrote:Not sure if it is just me - but I cannot watch your videos gewb - - i get a message which says "Sorry - there was an issue with playback"

I'll upload the sample video file to my Box account and make it available - it will take about thirty minutes. Note that the file is very small.

GEWB

Good morning gewb,
Was your video made with VideoStudio ? If not what was the software used ? If made with VideoStudio, could you upload your VSP file somewhere as to see exactly how it was all done (filters / personalized moves used, etc. ) ?

All done in VS X8.5 Ultimate but I'm not sure that the ultimate "extras" (vs Pro) were used.
Keep in mind the VSP file points to my files/locations. You can grab the file from my Box account:
