Audio & mp4 (XAVC-S) / Editing problems
Hello
I have been here before, but it seems I forgot user & password, so I created a new log-in.
I am a VideoStudio user since version 4 and an SD digital camera from Sony, and I still find the program very good compared to Magix Video Deluxe, which is why I do everything on VideoStudio.
However, I changed from video cameras to still cameras with video function, and I chose the Sony a6000 because it has XAVC-S, which seems to be a very good codec, and I love the results I get.
There is just only one problem I would like to address here, and unfortunately I don't have a clue of how to solve it:
When I put the clips into the project and edit them, everything ist fine. I watch the project, like the results and render the movie. Then I watch the rendered movie, and what happens?
On the beginning of each clip, the audio is wrong. It sounds like for some frames (maybe one second), the sound is played twice before it gets back to normal.
When having a scene with not much of audio (like a pan of a landscape) you barely realize that something is wrong, but if someone says something, of course, the error is obvious.
I was very astonished to have this kind of error, as it only appears in the rendered-out file, not in the project.
Has anyone had the same experience?
I am using the XAVC-S codec, with stereo (no other option) on highest video data rate in 50p.
If anyone is in the mood to check it out: Make a clip in which you say something, then start with a first clip in the project, cut the recorded clip so it starts right away with the first word, and then render the project in the same format (XAVC-S).
I suppose you will hear that effect.
Thanks for advice.

Re: Audio & mp4 (XAVC-S) / Editing problems
Ah, ok.
Thanks.
Then let's hope that it will be fixed in the next version.
Is there any rumour as to when the next version will be released?
btw.: I created a wav-file from every clip I used. It's not a nice or easy way, when you are working with a load of clips, but it does the trick. WAV-files will sound right.
Thanks.

Re: Audio & mp4 (XAVC-S) / Editing problems
Hi Jan
There have been a few posts regarding an audio problem where the first second repeats the audio.
Then as far as I know plays ok.
With only a few reports I don’t know how much credence Corel puts on the problem.
I would advise you to report this to Corel Support, the more users report this problem the better chance of a fix.
Can you provide a sample of the problem video.
Upload to a sharing site, Google Drive, DropBox , One Drive are free to use.
Provide us with a “share link”
We can try to replicate the problem, and certainly if I can will also report to Corel.

Re: Audio & mp4 (XAVC-S) / Editing problems
Hi Iata
after unsuccessfully trying to create a good example file I finally had the breakthrough:
It happens if you mix both XAVC-S and AVCHD files.
Here is a link which shows what happens:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6dtyfvmpim5f ... h0XIa?dl=0
It's easy to create the situation. As you can see in the video I used one clip in XAVC-S, once "as a whole", then, after a clip filmed in AVCHD with a cut right before the text - and voilá, the error occurs.
As long as you stay with only XAVC-S, the error will not appear. That is also why it had never occurred to me before: Usually I only use one cam, but on that special occasion I used two different cameras and thus two different original codecs.
It would be nice if you could place it somewhere at Corel's.
Cheers

Re: Audio & mp4 (XAVC-S) / Editing problems
I am having the exact same issue with every single video I make! The first 1-2 seconds repeats itself at any place you have cut the raw footage. It's very annoying and pretty much makes the software useless to me. If they don't fix it I am going to ask for my money back.

Re: Audio & mp4 (XAVC-S) / Editing problems
Hi Jan
The sample you provided seems to be one you have rendered and not the original.
Can you provide an original before any rendering / conversion.
Rscott22
I would also appreciate a sample from you, raw footage before.
Guys
You could create a Smart Package or Instant Project, zip and upload, the advantage is that it will contain the VSP project file showing any edits you have applied along with the video file.
We do not work for Corel, so you are best to report this to Corel Support.
If I can replicate this as mentioned earlier I will also pass the details to Corel.
Only by telling Corel will it get a fix.

Hi Trevor
I uploaded the project on the same link, but I am pretty sure that any mix of avchd and xavc-s will cause the error.
Cheers

Re: Audio & mp4 (XAVC-S) / Editing problems
Hi Jan
Thanks for that I will download the new sample.
Yesterday I managed to replicate the problem using Video Studio samples along with your project properties.
I found that using the sound as LPCM and trimming the clip caused the sound to repeat.
I did not have time but will now repeat my tests with a view in changing the audio from LPCM to Mpeg ACC.
I passed my findings to Corel Support, they replied and could replicate the repeat sound.
The problem has been escalated to Corels QA who hopefully will provide a fix.

Very happy to see this has been escalated up already! Hopefully they provide a fix in a timely manner.lata wrote:Hi Jan

Re: Audio & mp4 (XAVC-S) / Editing problems
FWIW, I downloaded the samples and tested using LPCM and Mpeg CC and got the same results. It made no difference. However don't trim and there's no echo, but that defeats the purpose of being able to edit clips how you want. Definitely a big bugaboo.

How long does it take COREL to usually resolve issues like this? I have 6 videos I need to have completed by end of the year and the "skippig" or "repeat" needs to resolved ASAP.

Re: Audio & mp4 (XAVC-S) / Editing problems
Hi
Sorry but I have no idea, from the quick reply I received I do know Corel are taking this seriously, but as for how long????
From my tests I thought that the LPCM audio along with trimming the clips was probably the cause.
I have completed a few more tests and by converting the sample provided by Jan from LPCM audio to ACC Mpeg audio seemed to fix this issue.
I used the standard template XAVC S MP4 HD (1920 x 1080, 50p, 20Mbps), would use 60P for NTSC video to convert the sample.
Once converted I was able to edit the new clips, trim the ends and render the project with what seems to be good audio.
It may be possible to convert to m2t files but not tested that option?
I have to say that I only have a short test video and longer clips may still have problems.
You can of course use any video converter, but I managed with VSX9.
Simply add each clip to the timeline, one at a time render to the default XAVC-S template
Oh there is a Batch convert option but does not support XAVC-S, I will mention that to Corel.
Good luck.

Re: Audio & mp4 (XAVC-S) / Editing problems
Hi Guys
With thanks to Corel, they have provided a fix for this audio repeat issue.
Please download the HotFix from the attached file.
Apply hotfix….
Locate the file ulmp4lib.dll in this folder.
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X9
Rename the file as “ulmp4lib old.dll”
Copy and Paste the replacement file ulmp4lib.dll to the same folder.
Launch Video Studio.
Please confirm that this does indeed fix the XAVC-S audio issue.
