I am transferring from Hi8 video to digital using Roxio Video Capture USB and my old video camera. The process has gone smoothly but I just hit a snag.
My older camera "failed" back in the day and started recording all the video in black and white. Once I discovered it I bought a new camera. However, I have hours of tape recorded in black and white. The capture software that came with the interface, Roxio Easy VHS to DVD3, won't capture the B&W feed. It will display the B&W video for a second or twothen it goes blank and states "No Video Signal"
Can anyone recommend a setting in the capture process that will allow it to capture the B&W video? If not, how about different capture software that will do so. I can say I have tried Corel VideoStudio Pro X7 and it does not recognize the Roxio capture hardware.
TIA, Steve

Re: Capturing black and white source
was your older camera also Hi8 - or was it a different format
is there sound with the black and white video - only I have had a few problems in the past when the capture device does not accept video without a sound signal saying there is no video signal if you have used an s-video connection from the old camera to the roxio device that may be part of the problem - s-video does not carry sound you will need a separate sound camera
basically if you can capture colour video you should be able to capture B&W - just a matter of getting the configuration correct
Videostudio does not support capture via USB cable

Re: Capturing black and white source
The camera was Hi8 and I have been able to capture videos from before the B&W period. I am using an s-video cable and a separate sound cable. The B&W videos have sound. The capture software will pick up the B&W intermittently, but quickly switches back to "No video signal". Oddly, if I stop the tape, the "stop" and "time" graphics will show up on the capture preview screen.

Does your old Hi8 camcorder have composite (Red/White and Yellow) jacks as well as the S-video connection? If so, have you tried using those instead of the S-video?
