I have an old desktop computer that I only use for printing. I have x7 installed on it. Today I tried to install x8 on it. But after several tries I've given up. I get the following message.
"Installation Wizard not complete.
Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again. Click finish to exit.
2146697211"
Any clues?
Maybe x8 beyond installing on an old computer. (Old HP. Intel Core(TM) Duo CPU. E7500 @2.93ghz. Ram 4.00 gig. 64bit). Better than my old laptop. So it should work. Should.

Have you updated Windows on that desktop. I believe it needs Net Framework 4 and some other updates.
Perhaps update as much as you can, close your Firewall and Virus program to make sure they are not causing some conflicts.
Could also be that an update installation is in progress which is causing a conflict when you try and do another installation as well.
Did a google search on that number and seems to be a problem for others as well

Re: Old user with dumb question
Thanks hartpaul. It's running Win 7 Home Premium. The problem is that the computer is not, nor never has been, connected to the internet. So that's an issue.
I use Photoline as my go to editor. Photoline allows me to use PSP as an external editor which makes life easy when I need my favourite PSP tools. The latest Photoline runs just dandy. So does every other 'new' piece of software. It's just the x8 I'm having issues with. So what does the 2146697211 refer to? Graphics card? Software?
FWIW. I only use my desktop to print. Then because of client orders etc that can be very erratic. I think its over 6 months since I use the desk top at all. Now I need a print run of 200+ A4's and A3+. Just to be on the safe side I want my desktop running the same software as my editing laptop. Hence the need to get my house in order. Saves me flip flopping back and forward between computers. Maybe I'll just keep smiling and use x7.

If you don't want to connect that computer to the internet - even temporarily - then yes, if X7 serves you purpose your should just stick to that.

Have you ever done any updates? Even if you don't want to connect the PC to the Internet, you could download off-line updates and run them from your PC. It's a lot slower but it does work. One problem is that with never connected there's no real way to know which updates are needed.
Even if you are willing to put it on-line, I suggest that you use WSUS Off-line, the free third-party off-line installer: http://download.wsusoffline.net/. (You need to go on-line because the installer determines which updates the PC needs. It downloads them and creates a custom installer.) MIcrosoft has had a lot of problems with Windows 7 updates recently. Many people report that when they run Check for Updates often it can take more than 24 hours just to get a list of available updates. In many cases the update checker doesn't crash and doesn't ultimately produce a list of needed updates--it just stays at "Checking for updates" even when left running more than 24 hours, or the "install" phase starts and then just "sticks" at a certain percent and stays there. Those don't happen with the off-line installer.
