Ultimate X9.5 and plugin licenses

Post by Berry Gordy »

Hi all, new poster. I deliberately modified (stole) the title of a previous thread because it's basically the same problem. I was running VS8.5 Ultimate with no problem, but couldn't resist the Amazon deal for VS9.5 Ultimate. Now I've installed that, but I'm getting an error when trying to use proDAD Rotopen or Vitascene, as seen in the attached screencap. All the other plugins work fine, it's just those two that are a problem. So is there a hotfix for 9.5 similar to the one for 8.5? :P

That is not a known issue with VSX9.5, can only suggest that you try a reinstall and see if that corrects the problem

Hi Robert, thanks for posting. That was my first instinct, but after 2 re-installs and running the clean-up tool in between, the problem is still there, unfortunately :(

When you downloaded X9 -- at least I assume you downloaded -- you should have in your Downloads folder a VideoStudioX9 folder. In that, among other things, will be a 64bit folder which contains a sub-folder called Bonus Features. Click on the setup.exe file in that and set up all your bonus features again. Trying to install them separate from a multiple installation will produce the licensing problem you have encountered.

Hi Ken, thanks for your help. So along those lines, I did download it from Amazon, but I did not want to install it immediately. When I was ready to install, I didn't go through the master installer, mainly because it appeared that it would download everything all over again (stupid Amazon). I ran the separate installers in this order - VS9, standard content, bonus content.

Should I now reinstall the setup_Bonus.exe again by itself, or am I better off running the master installer and hoping it's smart enough to not download everything again?

OK, so I ended up trying both possibilities.

Ran setup_Bonus.exe on top of the existing install. No change, still getting license errors for Vitascene and Rotopen.

Uninstalled and reinstalled using the VideoStudio.exe setup program - annoyingly, it did download everything all over again. Ran through setting everything up in one shot - VS9, standard content, bonus content. No change, still getting license errors for RotoPen and Vitascene.

All the other plugins work fine - Boris, the NewBlue filters and Titler EX, Adorage, whatever. It's just the RotoPen and Vitascene plugins that are kicking out this license error. I have to believe it's something similar to the 8.5 license issue pinned above at this point. Someone forgot to mention to proDAD that hey, the license should extend to this version too :)

I should note that I downloaded and installed 9.5 directly since that was my only choice - I didn't start with 9.0 and then install service packs or anything to get there.

Well, pretty obviously if this was a general problem, we would have been inundated by now with complaints from many other users. We haven't been.

And X9.5 is the version you would have received even if you had bought direct from Corel.

Sorry, but I can't think of anything else you might try.

Hi Ken, thanks again. I don't know how you might define "inundated", but there's a post in a VS X8.5 plugin thread (that you responded to) from someone having the same exact problem in VS9, so I think it's pretty obviously not just me having this problem:

http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 66#p332566

Based on that user's post, it appears a common element is that we both had X8.5 installed. Unlike that user, I installed 8.5 first and then 9.5, so installing them in the wrong order isn't the cause of the problem in this case. I did, however, install them side-by-side - I did not uninstall 8.5 before installing 9.5. I have since uninstalled 8.5 and only have 9.5 installed at the moment, though.

Also based on the posts in that thread, I moved the vft_plug folder out of \Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X9\ and then re-ran the setup_Bonus.exe again. I then copied back the files missing in the new vft_plug folder from the old vft_plug folder. This also did not solve the problem - although I watched the setup_Bonus file rebuild the vft_plug folder and put the proDAD *.vft files in there, I am still getting the license error, even though I didn't copy the old proDAD *.vft files overtop the ones the installer created for me a second time. It wouldn't have mattered if I did, though - the newly created *.vft files from setup_Bonus.exe are identical to the ones I removed - same filesize, same SHA-256 hash, etc.

I do not know if any Corel employees regularly post here, but it seems entirely possible that the problem is related to how this particular downloaded version is built/installed and the licenses are baked in, and that's why there has been a lack of inundation :)

In any case, I would appreciate any further suggestions if any of this seems to suggest a solution.

It seems to me that we can easily see if your *.vft file is identical to mine by checking them against each other.

My proDADVitascene20Corel4.vft is 97,792 bytes and has a CRC-32 sum of 1CFF7DF1.

If yours differs that might account for the issues I'm having, and might indicate that the version Corel provided to Amazon is different from the one directly downloadable from Corel. Hard to say otherwise without access to Corel's CVS, which I sort of doubt they'll give me :)

Hi

My version of proDADVitascene20Corel4.exe is 95.Kb (97.792) appears to be the same file.
I don’t know where to see the CRC details?

Can you try resetting the program by renaming the folder 19.0 to “19.0old”
Starting the program will create a new 19.0 folder.
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\19.0
Does that make any difference?

Web Installer
As far as I know running that will check your download files against the servers files, if a newer version exists then they will be downloaded
Your original purchase may have been older files, the latest version will be CVSX9.5 which should not require any additional service packs.
As a comparison
Ultimate folder, actually contains the main program (a little confusing) is 1.07 Gb (1.156.886.836 bytes) – installs the program.
The Standards Contents folder size shows as 1.40Gb (1.513,250,114) completes the program installation.
The BonusFeatures size is 1.55Gb (1.668.223.898bytes) -- Installs the prodad stuff
At least that’s what I have

Hi lata, thanks for posting. The folders I have match yours in size, so that seems to be OK. The version I have is 19.5.0.35 and checking for updates shows nothing available, which seems to be expected.

I've been looking in \Roaming\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro, oddly. It never occurred to me that it might be dropping stuff in under the Ulead name -- I've used VS since version 10 (not X) when it was still Ulead and the website was still ulead.tw, so it probably should have occurred to me :) -- so I never scrolled down far enough to see the Ulead folder. Per your instructions I did go into the AppData\Roaming\Ulead folder and renamed the 19.0 folder. Interestingly, there was still an 18.0 folder in there too, so for the hell of it I renamed that one too. I guess the VS8 uninstall and the cleaner tool missed that one somehow. Anyway, it didn't make a difference - I still get the license error.

Is it possible that there's somehow more VS8.5/18.0 folders littering up my system and that's causing X9.5 to look in the wrong place and get the wrong license info? Anywhere else you think that might happen?

Hi

Clean up tool, if you used the one provided by Corel
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 47#p329686

It uninstalls the program but leaves personal settings in tact so some folders will remain.
Saying that it does seem to do a better job in cleaning the registry than say Program and Features does, difficult to prove of course, but I use Cleanup as a second option should P and F fails for any reason?

The only other folder I know of is in the documents structure, but could be others, hard for me to tell when I have the program installed.
I doubt that these folders from X8 will affect X9

But there are folders C:\Program Files\proDAD
Just thinking out loud here, if they were installed with X8 and not removed, they may not be overwrttten when installing X9
But if that were the case a lot more users would have issues??????

You could of course uninstall all Video Studio, then re-install remove Prodad folders?
Re-install X9
Do you install using the Web Installer or accessing the folders to use Setup.exe and setup_CHD.exe?????

As for Ulead yep its still there after all these years, Corel took over during Ulead VS10, that’s 10 years ago?

I did it both ways, actually. The first time, I downloaded the thing and then ran through the individual setup programs for VS, the standard content, and the bonus content. When I figured out that the proDAD plugins (but only some of them - not all) weren't working, I uninstalled and used the web installer. Which, honestly, I'm not doing again since it doesn't recognize that I've already downloaded the software and will have me downloading 4+ GB for a third time

I think I will try this: uninstall VS9, run the VS8 and VS9 cleanup tools (again) and remove that proDAD folder from \Program Files\

Will report back what happens 8)

OK, so that didn't work. Uninstalled, ran both cleanup tools, removed the proDAD folder, reinstalled, and Vitascene and Rotopen still didn't work.

So now I got frustrated - I uninstalled, ran the cleanup tool, and went to work. I removed every folder and file I could find related to VS or the plugins - Corel, Ulead, proDAD, NewBlue. I ran through the registry and killed as many Corel/Ulead/proDAD keys and values I could find (note for anyone reading this later - this is dangerous, don't do it :/ )

Rebooted and reinstalled and now...Vitascene works, but Rotopen still kicks out the license error. So this is good, this is progress :)

I think I may have missed something related to Rotopen as I was laying waste to everything named "Corel", so I will uninstall and try again!

Thanks lata, I think that something about 8.5 must have somehow conflicted with the 9.5 install. Weird issue that only seems to be affecting me and maybe one other person.

Will report back...

Hi

How are you installing the Bonus Content
Are you running the Web Installer to install all automatically?
Or accessing the folder via windows explorer to double click the \64bit\BonusFeature\setup_Bonus.exe

There is a third option to locate the actual files , Vitascene_x64.exe etc.
Do not install the packages using this manual approach, always run setup_Bonus.exe
Installing by running Vitascene_x64.exe will cause licencing issues. These plugins have to be installed using the programs installer package.

So how are you doing it?
