Outputting to hard drive rather then burning directly?

Post by ieraseu »

Hello, I am using the free trial of DVD MovieFactory 4.0. So far I am happy with the program, however I have one issue. I have an mpeg2 capture that is too large to fit on one DVD disc. What I want to do is output the DVD I authored in MovieFactory 4.0 to a folder on my hard drive. Then I can use DVDShrink to re-encode this down to fit to a standard 4.7gb DVD and burn it. However I have not been able to find such an option in DVD MovieFactory 4.0. Is this possible with MovieFactory 4.0? If not any other suggestions? I should mention the 'shrink to fit' option is not working in this instance, as the mpeg2 file is just too large.

In the burning output module click on the "Down Arrow" located to the right of the screen. That will cause more burning options to appear.
That is what your looking for. Use it all the time.

The "Fit To Disc" is when the project is slightly over the 4.370 limit.

Nero "Recode" is also a nice program for resizing dvd's.

Hope this helps,

Thank you for your reply. Actually even when I try to save the project to my hard drive, it gives an 'over size limitation' error. Any other ideas? Does anyone perhaps know of any software I can use to re-encode the mpeg2 file utilizing a lower bitrate?

Somewhere's in those screen's is the size of the dvd project your creating.
If it's over 4.3 you have to set that to 8.5gig.
I think it's on the lower left of the screen (bottom) on the 1st timeline screen.

As an update, I ended up just using TMpgenc in conjunction with ReJig to re-encode the capture at a lower bitrate. This did the trick for me. Thank you for the replies.
