Instant Effect - vignette dark
I love this instant effect. I think it really adds to certain pictures. Especially when I soften the image and then add the vignette dark. What I don't like though is when I want to vignette dark an image with the instant effect tool and it slightly softens the whole image, which is what it appears to do. Is there anyway to manipulate the settings, or use the effect from a different source, without having the softening effect on the entire image? Thanks in advance for any thoughts or shares.

I gave up on the PSP vignette feature. Now I always use Nik Collection Color Efex Pro 4 plugin. Nik gives you so many options.

Re: Instant Effect - vignette dark
I believe the softness is made by the diffuse glow setting. Does it help to set that to zero? Blur I believe will blur outside the selected area, but diffuse glow works on the full image.

Re: Instant Effect - vignette dark
brucet, don't know what Nik Collection Color Efex Pro 4 plugin is... but will Google it. Thanks for the tip.
Levi, do not see where there is anywhere to adjust any settings on these instant effect choices. Can you enlighten me?

Re: Instant Effect - vignette dark
Sorry, I had misunderstood what you meant by Instant Effects. I never use that palette. The Instant Effect just runs a preset script. So if you run the Vignette command in edit mode you can select the vignette dark preset and then turn down the Diffuse Glow setting. If you need to run the instant effect from Manage Mode then you'll have to edit the vignette dark script to turn off the diffuse glow.

I assume you meant the Adjust mode, not Manage mode?LeviFiction wrote:If you need to run the instant effect from Manage Mode then you'll have to edit the vignette dark script to turn off the diffuse glow.
In any event, the OP is better off using Edit mode, because all of those Instant Effects available in Adjust mode are available in Edit mode and, as you pointed out, often provide more flexibility, depending on the effect being used.

Re: Instant Effect - vignette dark
No, I stupidly meant Manage Mode. Proves I don't use that mode at all. I'm thinking of when it was first introduced and was available in all three modes. (Unless I'm remembering that wrong too) From what I remember you used to be able to run instant effects in Manage Mode. Which was annoying as it destructively ran scripts on images and saved the result immediately.

Re: Instant Effect - vignette dark
Levi and Joe... thank you so much. I have not been using this program long and I didn't even know that vignette option was there! Just tried it out and I love it. Does exactly what I want. The preset has some level of diffusion in it that I think is the glow feature, but not sure. If I turn it all the way down I get great clarity. (Only problem is now I have to go back through a ton of pics and redo them!) Thanks guys... I really appreciate it. Keep learning new things about this program all the time. Did you guys upgrade to the new version? I haven't yet because I haven't learned everything on this one yet! Do have a problem with the program locking up when I am not active for very long and thought about upgrading just to see if it improved that situation.
Brucet - I went in and downloaded the Nik Collection. Haven't been able to do much with it yet. Thought as a plugin it would somehow magically appear as an option in Corel. It did not create an icon, so I had to go into my recent downloads just to find it. Then there were multiple selections or plugins I suppose. I opened one and it was not readily apparent to me how to import pics into it. Kind of disappointed given it was created by the geniuses at Google. But admittedly, I did not spend 5 minutes with it. Will play around with it some more tonight.
Thanks again guys. Hope I get to the point one day where I can help people out.

The Nik Collection is a collection of plugins. Once you have installed it you can open PSP and you'll find it in the menu item Effects>Plugins>Nik Collection.

Re: Instant Effect - vignette dark
fndoolley first you need to download the Nik Collection. Then double click it to install. Then in PSP go to File/Preferences/File Locations. Makes sure Enable Plugins is checked. Click on Add. Then look for the Nik Collection. In my case I let Google/Nik use their default locations. Which in my case is c:\Program File\Google. Choose OK. This will give the complete collection.
Then I always close PSP. Just because I do!!! Open PSP again. Open a photo of any kind. Then go to Effects/Plugins. You should see Nik Collection as an option. Select Color Efex Pro 4. On the left side you will see a zillion presets. Scroll down and you will find the 3 Vignette options. Now enjoy confusing yourself with all the options.

Re: Instant Effect - vignette dark
You'll also find vignette presets in the Nik HDR filter -- these can give some stunning effects too.

Re: Instant Effect - vignette dark
Just wanted to get back to everyone and say "Thanks" - solved my simple question about how to properly vignette. Problem solved, thanks to you all being kind enough to read and respond to this novice's request. But moreover, I finally got the Nik plug in to download and figured out how to access (thanks brucet) and OMG! I have just started learning how to use my Corel program and now I feel like I have a whole new program to learn. It is amazing! Thanks again.

Re: Instant Effect - vignette dark
well, I upgraded to 9x and tried to load the already downloaded Nik plug in... no luck. Did something change with 9 that is tripping me up? I also got a set of plug-in's with my upgrade, but I cannot locate those either. When I go to the plug-in section in the adjust area it tells me no plug-ins loaded
