Trimming source video in MSP7

Post by jjoshua »

Have been browsing through the forum and appreciate all the helpful
stuff........So heres my question :
Can someone tell me how to trim my source video and save it back
to the same location ( am using a swap drive as archive which is
where the source video is located)
Is it possible to, in one step to trim the source video permanently
or must I save the trimmed portion to the same archive (which is
what I Plan to do ) and delete the source containing the untrimmed
video (which is also what I plan to do )

thanks

I was just about to update my question when I found your reply.
I did read the manual about smart trim
when i opened the smart trim dialog there were no clips in it and no
way of getting any through that dialog box
so I Imported a clip into V. editor and in the preview window made
trims (mark in-out)and thought that it would then appear in the smart
trim dialog, but it did'nt.
What I really want to do for now is only trim my source files and
nothing else.

In order to get clips into the Smart Trim, you need to have trimmed a clip in your MSP project (either cut out some sections, or cut something off the beginning or end, etc...).

Then when you Smart Trim, you will see the available clips that can be trimmed. You specify a folder to put the new output, and when you press ok, a popup will ask you if you want to delete the original clip when done (make sure you know what you are doing, because if you delete the original, it's gone).

Thanks, tried it, great
After hitting "trim" it first coverted the clips and then replaced the
original ( which was what I wanted )
Is that because the project properties in V. editor did not match
the original. It did'nt take too long though.
How can I find out the properties in my source video (which was
captured from a DV Cam)
My project settings are:
PAL (25 fps)
Overlay track(s):3
Microsoft AVI files
24 Bits, 720 x 576, 4:3, 25 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
DV Audio -- PAL, 32.000 kHz, 12 Bit, Stereo

Should I change anything if all I want to do is trim the source ?

r-click and select Properties :)

btw, you might want to consider changing your camcorder settings to capture 16-bit 48khz audio (instead of what might be the default of 12-bit 32khz audio).

When I right-click, properties on the video file
I dont get very much. Anyway imported a clip into DVD workshop
and checked the properties. all my clips are probably the same

Regarding the audio I just discovered that the audio of my clips are
recorded in 32000khz 12 bit, would it be ok to set the audio
in the project properties to 48000khz 16 bit or not
I would like to change my cam's audio to 4800..16 bit
but would it be better to stay with 320..12bit as I am likely to
use clips with different audio properties in the same project.

Another question  :
should I check the "perform non-square pixel rendering" option
when just trimming the clips.
My main output will be DVD for pal TV
I tried to get some info on that from the manual but it seems
confusing to me

When and if or not to select that option ?
