There is no need to unless you are really pressed for hard drive space. The two programs will operate independent of one another.
PSPX9 | PSP2020 | PSP2021| PSP2022 | PSP2023 & PhotoMirage installed; PSPX | PSPX2 thru PSP2019 owned but not installed

Thanks, Kathy_9. Do you know if they share files at all. I'd like to leave X8 in place until I'm comfortable with any changes in X9. Then I'd uninstall X8 if it won't affect X9.

If you have added plugins, frames etc then they do/will have to 'share' some information. This is not an issue though if you have those items in their own folders. Otherwise you will need to point x9 to their locations.
I would leave x8 there. If you are that short of disc space then I think you will be having all sorts of processing issues first.
FWIW I have about the last 6 versions of PSP happily living on my computer. Why? No idea. Too lazy to delete them I suspect.

I also have earlier versions of PSP from Jasc PSP8 and PSP X2 through to X9.brucet wrote:If you have added plugins, frames etc then they do/will have to 'share' some information. The reasons I have kept these are because some of the features in the earlier version I feel are better than the "Improvements" done in later versions.
Some of the reasons I have kept the earlier versions are:
1. Changes to versions
PSP 8 was simpler than the later versions which became more complex. X2 was a bit more complex than PSP8 but is simpler than the later versions The Organiser was not present in my PSP8 but was there in X2 with some similarities to the Manage workspace.
X2 allowed me to load 15 images to the workspace without complaining liks some of the later versions do. X2 also allowed me to do a Levels adjustment and then hit the Enter key to accept this was also the case with X3 but was broken along with some other dialog boxes in X4-X9.
2. Development of Manage mode
X2 had an Organiser with Smart collections and some of the earlier features of what would be developed in X4 + eg Tags but no tabbed trays.
X3 brought the Organiser and Express Lab . Express Lab is very similar to Adjust tab in Later versions. Organiser is looking more like the Manage Tab in later versions. Movement between the tabs is limited and you Exit the Express lab to the Tabe you came in from.
ie. Organiser > Express Lab > Exit to Organiser (cannot Exit to Full Editor.)
Full Editor > Express Lab > Full Editor (cannot exit to Organiser.
X3 seemed to me to be a Beta version of what wasto come in X4 and all later versions.
3. New Developments and things broken
The change to X4 and up to X9 brought in a new operation for the Text tool dropping the Text box from earlier versions but still allowing it to be accessed .
It broke the Default Enter Accept for the Levels Dialog and a number of other dialogs and they have remained broken through 6 versions. I use the X4 and above for the ease of use of the text tool.
4. Helping Others
By keeping all the versions of PSP it means I can try to duplicate the faults or bugs that others experience in whatever version they are using and so confirm it as a possible bug or try to help them solve their problems in that version. I used to be able to also match the systems with Win 7, Win 8.1 and Windows 10, but due to Microsofts aggressive marketing of Windows 10 all my laptops have been converted to Windows 10. My only access to Windows 7 and 8.1 is by changing hrd drives on my desktop from XP.
I like to give back to others on this board instead of just taking.
5. Space saving??
All of my versions of PSP take up a total of less than 5 Gb including the user folder s in Documents .
So 5 Gb compared to 1000 Gb is small fries.
On my laptop I still have 562 Gb free and it has many other graphics programs there and most of the data gets transferred to portable external hard drives.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

Re: Do I Uninstall X8 Before Installing X9
This basically won't apply to "basic" X8, etc., but it does apply for Ultimate editions.
Original installation of plugins that come as Ultimate extras requires that PSP edition to already be installed. So, for instance, on a new PC with no PSP installation, if you want to use an X8 Ultimate plugin, you will need to install X8 and then run the plugin installer. Then you need to install X9. Then copy the plugin from X8's \plugins folder to X9's plugins folder. You can then uninstall X8. When X10 comes out, you won't need to temporarily reinstall X8 -- you can just copy the originally X8 plugin from its current location in the X9 folder to X10's plugins folder.
And as already mentioned, you can put the plugins in any folder, then just add that location in the File Locations dialogue.
