I bought VS7 basic along with FireWire controller. I installed software and controller without any errors/warnings. VS recognizes my camcorder and lets me caputer video.
Once I add a few clips to the storyboard I can't preview the entire projet. VS plays only voice but preview window is frozen on current frame.
When I stop preview the preview window goes to the frame where preview stopped (previewing clips works ok, I can see the movie and hear the voice).
My computer: Celeron 2.8 GHz, 512 RAM, about 80 GB of gree HDD space, running XP Professional with latest updates.
Thank you for you help.

It "sounds" like the your computer cannot keep up with playing the video and audio stream in real time. The preview screen is usually a bit jerky and the bigger the project gets the worse it gets. Have you tried shutting down all other running programs including background programs such as anti-virus, screen savers, ANYTHING you can lay your hands on to free up some resources.
I also vaguely remember reading something about a memory leak in an earlier edition of VS, not sure if it was 7 though, try going to the ULEAD site and check for any uddate patches.

Thanks for the help. I've changed "Playback method" from "High Quality Playback" to "Instant Playback" (in program preferences) and now preview works.
I still have some other problems/questions though:
1. Is it possible to caputre video along with date/time displayed by camcoder on LCD? Right now my camcoder displays date and time but after capturing they are gone...
2. I'm little woried about the qulity of the final file. I've set "Edit file format" to Microsoft AVI file (PAL 25 fps, 720x576, DV-type2) and use the same file format for "Create Video File" option. The resulting file doesn't look good though, the picture is not smooth. How to increase quality of the file (I want to use the final file to burn DVD).
