VS X9 Crashes when Outputting to SD Card
Hi all,
I've researched this topic but can't seem to find anything on it.
I'm trying to output my project to a USB thumb drive using the SD Card option on the Share Tab. The program crashes each time.
System specs:
VS Studio X9 Ultimate (ver 19.5.0.35)
Windows 7 Pro
Outputting to SanDisk 8 GB thumb drive
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: VS X9 Crashes when Outputting to SD Card
Not much information about your project.
Output to what format? Why are you using the SD card option? Simply output in your desired format directly to the USB stick.

Re: VS X9 Crashes when Outputting to SD Card
Project consists of a couple short video clips with menu. My goal is to "burn" my project to a flash drive/thumb drive and have the flash drive perform like a DVD disk. In other words, plug in the flash drive, menu displays waiting for me to press play.
I tried the "AVCHD" option on the Share Tab but my flash drive was not listed as an output option; only my DVD drive.

Re: VS X9 Crashes when Outputting to SD Card
Do you have a player than can play a SD card? Are you creating a HiDef video?
As far as I know you cannot create a USB that behaves like a DVD and have it play on a DVD player.

Re: VS X9 Crashes when Outputting to SD Card
I have now learned that I confused the the two medias, SD card and USB or flash drive. So, the SD card option on the Share Tab in VS is no longer an issue. My intent is still to burn my project to a flash drive and have it auto-load the menu just like a DVD would do. This will be a High Def movie. Not sure if this is possible or not. It's a short wedding movie that I would like to give in a flash drive media instead of a DVD.
Any ideas?

Hi
First your best option is to burn a Disc?
I do not know of many pc media that will play the movie the same as using a Disc,
You could try creating a Disc Image an iso file, although that will play on the pc including menus using the correct software, if not will only play the movie.
Copying the iso to USB memory, I doubt that my tv will read that file, if it did it would not play the menu. Worth a try I guess.
The SD option, I assume will play the menu and movie, but I do not have a TV with SD so have never tested this option.
As your program is crashing you should go back a step.
Open your project to the main timeline and render the project using Share, create a new video file of your project, you should use the appropriate settings depending on the type of disc you are intending to burn. You mention DVD but then HiDef movie.
So are you intending to make a Bluray / Avchd movie or Standard DVD movie?
Once you have the new video file you can use that to burn a disc.
Start a new project, nothing in the timelines Share Disc option, opens the burner module, add video choosing your new video file.
I would suggest you first run the process to create a Disc Image ISO and or Folder.
Each option will create the movie including Menu saved to your pc.
With the appropriate media player software you can play that ISO / Folder on your pc, including menu, and that’s the problem we need appropriate media player software to play the menu.
You can now try copying the ISO and or Folder to USB stick, let us know if that plays on your pc, I doubt that the TV / DVD Player will read the USB same as a Disc.
If you choose not to have a menu then playing the movie file created from Share should play ok.
Otherwise burn a disc.
Oh if you are making a Avchd hybrid disc or Bluray you will need a Bluray Player to play these files. DVD will play on any player.

Re: VS X9 Crashes when Outputting to SD Card
sgriffis,
Surely all you need are a series of video files?
Save the files on the hard drive as '01_Bride prepares', '02_Bride arrives at church', '03_Wedding ceremony', '04_Couple outside church' and so on.
Then simply copy all the separate video files on to the USB stick.
When the USB stick is inserted into a media player (eg a Western Digital WDTV or a modern TV with media facilities) then the media player will list all the files on the screen and you can view them individually, or they will play in number order.
I do things this way all the time rather than make a DVD. It is easier to alter the presentation by changing individual files.

We said you cannot do that.
Yes you can render your project to a separate video file, then copy the files/files to a USB drive and they should play on your TV, but that does not preform like a DVD disc.

Re: VS X9 Crashes when Outputting to SD Card
Thank you all for your feedback on this. I apologize for the delayed reply. Been away a few days.
I should probably clarify a few things based on some of your feedback just to be sure my intentions are clear.
So, my ultimate goal is to be able to give the bride and groom a USB thumb drive containing their wedding. They would then be able to plug the drive into their TV and/or computer. The menu would automatically load (just like a DVD or Blu-Ray disk) waiting for them to make their selection of what to view (via TV remote/mouse, etc.).
It sounds like this may not be possible but like the old saying goes..."where there's a will, there's a way" (usually)
I am going to experiment with some of your suggestions and report back. If any new ideas come to mind, please let me know.
Thanks guys!!

Re: VS X9 Crashes when Outputting to SD Card
Hi Frank
Can you say if you are trying to create a DVD or Bluray disc?
A DVD Disc created as an ISO will play on the PC using VLC Media Player and include the menu structure, just like playing a disc.
A Bluray Iso or folder, you may have problems playing that with menus on your pc.
I would be interested to know if you can do that and what media player you used.
I do know some users can set VLC to play Bluray with original menus, but I have not been able to do that.
I would first create a package that will play on the PC, then try to make one that plays on the TV.

This is an 8GB file so it will be Blu-Ray if I can't work out the USB thumb drive idea.

Re: VS X9 Crashes when Outputting to SD Card
Hello again,
I have just completed another presentation on USB stick.
There are 57 mpeg2 files making up a total of 9 hours and using 20GB on the stick.
The files can be played individually from the menu on the television screen or they can be played in a continuous sequence in numbered order.
The end result is similar to a DVD except that the storage is much greater.
The menu system will depend on the particular media player used. I find the Western Digital WDBAAP0000NBK, manufactured about 8 years ago, to be very satisfactory.
I think lata is confusing a software media player, such as VLC, with a hardware media player such as Western Digital.
