Switching from Edit to Manage resets X9 to default Workspace

Post by Jan Shim »

I have PSP X9 (SP3) configured to launch in Edit workspace as default. Here, I have a customized menu bar that includes various scripts shortcuts on the same tool bar to launch Nik and Topaz plugins. This morning, I accidentally clicked the Manage tab which immediately changed to the Manage workspace. No problems there, except when I changed back to Edit, all my scripts shortcuts that are text labelled all turned into their default buttons!

My custom toolbar also got reset to default toolbar. In order to have everything back to how it was, I had to close the program and relaunch. Has anyone had this happen to them too? In all the years I've used PSP this is the first time this particular anomaly has happened.

After switching back from Manage:
Learning Center and Organizer that previously removed is restored.

This has happened to me in several versions. I won't use the word 'random' because programs seldom have really random problems, but PSP is Corel and I have never been able to make it happen on purpose. It just happens at times, then goes months without.

Do you save your workspace after customising it? Then you could reload it instead of restarting the program.

Menu File/Workspace/Save... to save your workspace. Or right-click in an empty area of the workspace, Workspace save/load/delete is on the context menu.
Check or uncheck the 'include open images' box.

Menu File/Workspace/Load... to load a saved workspace.

Yes, I have a backup of my workspace so closing and relaunching X9 and then reloading the saved workspace isn't too much of an effort.

Can't you just reload your workspace without first closing PSP? That usually works for me.

Reloading custom workspace without first closing PSP only removes the Organizer and Learning Center palettes. The scripts on the menu bar remains as icons. Relaunching the program restores the text labels they were originally configured to show. Mine's reproducible every time.

Interesting! While I have various bound scripts on buttons I don't use text labels but simply the icons available. IMHO, what you describe happening shouldn't be happening and that's a bug - and who knows if Corel will get around to fixing it. I'll point out your issue in the thread about how could the workspace be improved. In the meantime, it exemplifies why Corel should let us make our own icons for all of our custom buttons, because at least they don't disappear!

The transitioning from Edit to Manage to Edit is so dramatic that if it were captured in slow mo it would look like Tony Stark mounting his Iron Man armor minus the sound effects!

I have a recent workspace button on my tool bar for when this happens. which is all the bloody time.

for some reason the button tends to survive the work space reset.

A good suggestion for those who have the issue. I use X7 for the most part and haven't had the problem of the workspace resetting to default or any other issues switching between Manage and Edit, which I do all the time. Is this just an X9 issue or do others experience it with earlier versions also?

This bug is ridiculous but thankfully I don't need to deal with this much unless I click on the Manage and Adjust tabs by accident. I do have three bound scripts right under the two tabs. I only ever need to work in the Edit workspace. My preferred and default image manager is FastStone Image Viewer. Still, I hope to see a fix some day maybe via a Service Pack not PSP X10!

I've had it in all versions.
