customize motion issue

anyone ever notice an issue with customize motion... I have an image on the main video track and placing another on the overlay track. As soon as I add custom motion to the overlay track, you can no longer see the background image on video track it is black... my overlay image does not take up the whole screen. As soon as I exit VS, and re-open, it works properly until the next image I add custom motion to. This is in VSX8 - 32bit,,, I had been working in VSX( 64b but just went down to this version to use some new blue transitions that aren't available inX9 64bit...

so the overlay tracks aren't behaving properly, or the customize motion isn't working properly...

any thoughts

Not a problem I can replicate I'm afraid - I use customise motion quite a bit and have no problem at all seeing the background after applying motion to the clip on the overlay track - - in fact I made this only yesterday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_STjzYBxGBo - an image in the overlay track moving over a background

When you choose customise motion on the overlay clip can you see the background in the customise motion set up window ?

I use it All the time too!! Almost on very image I edit. I have a zillion preset s sabes in my libraries eherr i can remind myself which overlay tracks to place the images. I drag old motions on to the time line and copy the attributes. never seen this.
Yes you can see both frames... until you choose "customize motion" and alter the motion...

Something is funky, corrupt or missing? Im thinking a prob w alpha channel?? Its working fine in my VSX9.

Fyi -- i initially installed X9 ultimate 64b and then installed X8 32b. I never used x8 but decided to on my current project --I have many NB transition packs installed in X8 that as ive "barked" about before are not available on 64b. This has cuased such issues for me in general and i fear that this partuclar issue may be because i installed the versions out of chrononorder? I could reinstall - but what an effort to rebuild libs and then the install of 8 after 9 impacted my bonus content in 9 and inhad to reinstall those ...just a mess.

I think I will just keep working in 9 for the moment. Unless other ideas on settings to check?

FYI... haven't solved the issue, just found a work around... If I change the custom motion, and lose the ability to see the video track, all I have to do is move the overlay clip over a little and then move it back and the visual and the link betw the two are restored. so odd... fyi.. if I don't do this, and you can't see the video and overlay track in project prevew, it ALSO DOESN"T RENDER CORRECT --- so bizarre. Only have this issue in X8, x9 is working fine, so I tend to think that it doesn't have anything to do with my video card, just an odd quirk??

Are you able to replicate this using the sample clips from the library.
If Yes create a short project, Smart Package and upload to a sharing site, One Drive Google Drive etc
Maybe we will be able to see exactly what’s going on here

Are you applying Customise Motion to the video track clip or the overlay track clip?

Mostly to overlay track. Im in the middle of a project. When im done i will create something that can hopefully show you what is going in. It is strangely bizarre!! And something i use all the tim

I know this is an old issue but this is happening to me on VS 2021 and I cant find a work around. Does anyone know of one? I just tried on X9 and dont get the same problem.

If you can use the library samples you should be able to zip the VSP and attach to your reply here.
We should be able to re-link the files and see what is actually going on.

The behaviour that you report occurs if you are in the Sound Mixer mode - deselect Sound Mixer and all should work as expected.

Thank you for the tips sorry I have only just replied. I actually solved my issue by updating the video driver on the laptop.
