Video MPEG with VS7

Post by vlingres »

I created a video mpeg with VS7, and read it properly on my PC with Windows Media.

When I try to read the file on my second PC with Windows Media, the pictures move very, very slowly. When I try to read with VS7 on that second PC, it works well !

I try again to read a mpeg file (created by another mean) witl Windows Media on that second PC, it works.

Does anybody have an idea ? Is it due to the codec used by VS7 ?

Why don't you try updating your Windows Media Player. It should have plug-ins to make your video play neat on it. Also try updating your DirectX version with this link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx ^_^

Windows Media Player does not include support for MPEG2 video out-of-the-box, only MPEG1. As a result, you need a third-party DVD decoder or MPEG2 codec to play DVDs or MPEG2 files.

A bit more info about the problematic PCs configuration would be useful.

Thank you THoff. You are right, I installed PowerDVD and Windows Media now works !

However, it seems that VideoStudio also provides a codec. Is it possible to use it with Windows Media ? Anyway, I haven't found the way to change the codec name in WM, does anybody know how one can do it ?

You can use Microsoft's Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility to see the installed MPEG2 decoders, and change the decoder that will be used by Windows Media Player to open such files.

Don't be alarmed if this utility reports incompatibilities -- most people don't use WMP's synchronization feature, for instance.
