Ken,
With respect, that Corel is working on it wasn't well known. I scanned the pages, and saw nothing about that. And it's the second time it's broken for - I'll bet - the same reason in a few weeks. They have had plenty of time (after 1st event early November) to get a fix working. Clearly they didn't.

Then nobody here has reason to be offended because I was not talking to them or you, which begs to question your response to me.

This is ridiculous and I am complaining about on here like so many others. Is that against the rules? Maybe someone from Corel might read this thread and see that I am pissed and decide to tell Corel about it. Can you promise that that can't happen?

Ehh, back on subject. If this works, you won't have to disable internet to open it!

Here's the fix I used for Win 8:
  • 1. Search for or open up Windows Firewall with Advanced Security in settings/control panel
    2. Select "Outbound Rules" on the left, then click "New Rule" on the right.
    3. Select "Program", hit "Next"
    4. Find the path fore Corel VideoStudio (Go to where you open it from, right-click, go to properties, and the path will be in the "target" box)
    5. Select "Block the connection"
    6. Be sure all boxes are checked (Domain, Private, Public)
    7. Name as a reminder to what you're blocking, and hit "Finish"
For Win 10:
  • 1. Press "Start" and go to "Settings"
    2. Type in Firewall in the search and go to 'Windows Firewall" from there
    3. Click "Advanced Settings" on the left side
    4. Select "Outbound Rules" on the left, then click "New Rule" on the right.
    5. Select Program, hit "Next"
    6. Find the path fore Corel VideoStudio (Go to where you open it from, right-click, go to properties, and the path will be in the "target" box)
    7. Select "Block the connection"
    8. Be sure all boxes are checked (Domain, Private, Public)
    9. Name as a reminder to what you're blocking, and hit "Finish"

If you were not talking to Corel then why make statements such as: "What the heck Corel?", " ...you break your own program", "these flubups from you", "Do I need to come there and teach you how to run things", etc.?

After getting the same 'results=100' error earlier today, my VSX9 just launched correctly. And it launched without any long delay.

Since no one else has enlightened the frustrated user base on this . . elsewhere Glus a corel VS person outlined (part) on thursday 22 Dec this about the latest start VS failures
"We had a problem with one of our servers today, and it has caused issues with both VS and PS. We are working urgently to fix the server immediately, AND also hotfixes / patches to remove the apps' dependencies on it."

With that server up VS X9 starts normally.

Applying the firewall block worked great on this X9 Ultimate I purchased just a couple of hours ago and couldn't get to start after a successful install, quite frustrating. Thanks to this forum and to CaedoGenisis for outlining the procedure.....

Here we are, Mid-Jan 2017 2 months after the 1st server fail that caused X9 worldwide to fail on start. According to glus, caused a flood of support tickets, and corel was working urgently on a fix. Nothing further about it, then 3 weeks into December the 2nd server fail caused the same start fail issue. Still nothing about a fix, and I've been watching the "check for updates" periodically to check if there is anything there. Zilch.

So Corel's working urgently really isn't that urgent at all. Is there anything available that indicates when this urgent fix may be available, and in what form?

Davidk is referring to the last time the server was down and VSX9 failed to launch, Glus said that Corel were working on a fix so that if the server went down again, the program would still launch, without the need to disconnect from the internet
