Re: VideoStudio X9 suddenly wouldn't load
"Problem was caused by a breakdown in a server that VS uses to download information about items for sale in the in-product store"
So this whole problem is caused by Corel trying - with a program that we have paid good money for - to sell us stuff? It confirms my impression that half the problem with computers comes pushing stuff - nearly all of which we dont want. If I want a product, I search for it, and buy it. You dont need to tell me about stuff unless I am looking for it. Think of the thousands of hours of peoples' time that you have wasted.

Re: VideoStudio X9 suddenly wouldn't load
Well the X9 vstudio.exe (fix) is not from X6 as the following list of vstudio.exe executables that are on my system shows:tletter wrote:... the versioning is bizarre unless we are now running the vstudio executable from X6!
X9 vstudio.exe (fix) is V16.0.0.0 - 8.29 MB (8,693,760 bytes)
X9 vstudio_old.exe (replaced with fix) is V19.5.0.35 - 8.29 MB (8,699,832 bytes)
X8 vstudio.exe is V18.4.0.27
X7 vstudio.exe is V17.1.0.47
X6 vstudio.exe is V16.0.0.0 - 6.11 MB (6,416,712 bytes)
X5 vstudio.exe is V15.0.0.0
Apparently X9 vstudio.exe (fix) has the wrong version number applied.

Re: VideoStudio X9 suddenly wouldn't load
I have been advised separately by Corel that the server fault has been corrected and that people should now be able to open X9 without applying that fix. Please let us know if you still have trouble. I am going to try rolling back to the original videostudio.exe to see what happens.
EDIT: I have now done so and X9 opened after only a 30 second wait. What is more, I have TripleScoop and Muserk in my Samples folder, though no ScoreFitter which I previously had. I might still reboot to see what happens when I again try to open X9.
FURTHER EDIT: Rebooted and X9 opened fine in 40 seconds. Still no ScoreFitter -- not that that bothers me personally since I would never use it, but I might point it out to Corel nonetheless.

Re: VideoStudio X9 suddenly wouldn't load
I might be wrong here, but isn't ScoreFitter actually called AutoMusic which is still available, or am I on the wrong tram

Re: VideoStudio X9 suddenly wouldn't load
Whatever it's called, I had ScoreFitter as one of three extra folders under Samples. Now it is gone. AutoMusic appears as an icon above the timeline and when I click on that I get an array of selections. But we are talking about two different things in different places on the GUI.

Re: VideoStudio X9 suddenly wouldn't load
Well if the "hotfix" vstudio.exe does not contact the server when starting that's the one I'm staying with - don't need adverts or strange music
and running with that file my X9 "about" tells me I still have 19.5.0.35 - so what's the problem

Re: VideoStudio X9 suddenly wouldn't load
Hi
I have also rolled back my X9 by re-installing and everything seems ok including the TS and Muserk music library, no Score Fitter library.
These library pages do need an internet connection as does registration.
tletter
No Internet connection required to run Video Studio
The program should launch without internet, try it for your selves.
If it’s the first time -- we are prompted to register but closing the panel and VS launches.
Without internet there is no Triple Scoop and Muserk library, Corel Guides etc.

Sorry Ken, see what you mean, ScoreFitter is not showing in the samples library, had not noticed thatKen Berry wrote:Whatever it's called, I had ScoreFitter as one of three extra folders under Samples. Re: VideoStudio X9 suddenly wouldn't load
Well that is not what the Corel rep said which was:lata wrote:tletter
No Internet connection required to run Video Studio
Hence VS needed to successfully connect via the Internet to a Corel server to successfully start. Therefore the widespread failure of VS to start in a reasonable period of time.glus wrote:Problem was caused by a breakdown in a server that VS uses to download information about items for sale in the in-product store - X9 was checking this at startup.
As explained in the following post the problem was fixed when VS could successfully connect via the Internet to a Corel server at runtime:
If this connection via the Internet to a Corel server is not required then please explain what caused the widespread failure of VS X9.5 to start in a reasonable period of time? Thanks.Ken Berry wrote:I have been advised separately by Corel that the server fault has been corrected and that people should now be able to open X9 without applying that fix.

Re: VideoStudio X9 suddenly wouldn't load
You do not need an internet connection to run VS X9 and glus did not say you do.
I generally run VS without being connected to the internet. It does seem to take longer to launch if not connected and I assume that is because the program tries to connect but then gives up and the program runs.

Re: VideoStudio X9 suddenly wouldn't load
Hi
If you have an internet connection the program will use that to check for updates in the background.
If you do not have internet it will launch without checking, that may speed up the time to run.
A server fault / virus caused these checks to fail and indeed caused the fail to run, at least that’s how I read it.
I am only sorry I did not try launching VS without internet, I think it may have run without the fix?
We will never know.
Now Paint Shop Pro may be a different kettle of fish, I think that forces you to register before first running the program, Video Studio will run without registration, as it should do.
Don’t get me wrong PSP will run without internet provided the program is registered.

Re: VideoStudio X9 suddenly wouldn't load
So, what glus seems to be saying is that VS fails to open when the connection to their app store is broken. Geez. won't Corel learn from all the bitching about slow or failing starts?
If they truly want an app store, and (poor marketing) want to load VS users with a connection to it whether they want it or not, then put the connection to the app in the get more content page (icon on main UI workspace). From all the bitching about those music store items, it should be easy enough to guage just how unsuccessful the current approach is. maybe remove it completely

Re: VideoStudio X9 suddenly wouldn't load
I started encountering this error today. The program was working correctly this morning, but when I went to burn a DVD I got the 'Unspecified Error 5.0.0' right at the end, so one thing I was recommended to try was updating my video card. After I updated my video card the program began to give me the error in this thread on launch. Should I just roll back my video card driver? Everyone else sounds like this issue was fixed for them.
Re: VideoStudio X9 suddenly wouldn't load
I started getting this error today after updating my video card as it was a suggestion to fixing my other error when burning a DVD "Unspecified Error 5.0.0". Any advice? I have DVDs I need to burn for Xmas gifts.
