VideoStudio X9 suddenly wouldn't load

I'm sorry for what may be a foolish question, but what is the hotfix?

The hot fix is replacing the file vstudio.exe from the installation folder by one provided by Corel

Go to
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X9

Rename the "vstudio.exe" file to "vstudio old.exe"

Paste or copy the downloaded version to the folder

Running Video Studio may / does take a long time to run, have a cup of tea.
After your second cuppa, if vs is not running, reboot the pc, then try to run again.

Thanks for the reply. I am waiting for it to load now. Is it just me or is Corel full of program problems? Last week it all of a sudden wouldn't upload videos to YouTube through the program. Emailed support and they were far less than helpful. Now this. Don't think I will be buying another Corel program when I need new editing software which based on recent events may be soon.

Thanks, replacing the vstudio file worked. It did take FOREVER to load. This shouldn't be this hard.

"I just encountered this problem. I downloaded the hot-fix, but it failed to execute due to missing DLL's. After thinking about it, I decided to rename it and copy it into the X9 folder. After that it ran fine and now x9 loads....RDK"

Folks.....I posted the above yesterday. X9 (9.5.0.35) loaded after the above process and is still loading properly after several reboots....RDK

It's not stated in the information associated with your profile what version of VS you're using. Are you using X9.5? The fix mentioned at the start of this thread has resolved the X9.5 issue for some of us.

The program is useless.

A bit of an extreme pronouncement. VS has issues but it is a quite capable NLE at a very appealing price point.

I think what pepegota meant was that the program is useless if you can't open it, which is true enough.

Interestingly enough (to me at least) when I opened X9.5 this morning on a freshly booted computer it only took about 20 seconds to start up fully, instead of the usual couple of minutes... So maybe the new exe file has fixed that too...

Yesterday afternoon, we had 200+ tickets about this. We had a KB article posted with a file replacement fix, but apparently this adversely affects some users, so we have pulled that KB article and will spin a new Service Pack to resolve this properly.
We are working urgently to resolve this.

But what caused the problem in the first place? The file replacement fix solved the original problem for most of us if it was correctly applied.

Problem was caused by a breakdown in a server that VS uses to download information about items for sale in the in-product store - X9 was checking this at startup. Ideally the app should startup fine even in such a situation. Indeed, the file-replacement fix may have worked for most, but this hotfix was not purpose-designed for this exact situation - it was made for a different problem (one that has the same error message). It's great that it worked for most, but it's expected that some would go wrong. For those, we (support, engineering, and a bunch of other folks here) are helping to resolve ASAP.

X9 was checking this at startup.

Wow, X9 needs an Internet connection to start! Please remove that dependency.

The old vstudio.exe (v19.5.0.35) that broke had a digital signature from Corel so AV software didn't complain.

The new vstudio.exe (v16.0.0.0) that fixed the issue doesn't have a digital signature from Corel so AV software complains. As well the versioning is bizarre unless we are now running the vstudio executable from X6!

Please fix the lack of a digital signature and the versioning as well. Thanks.
