Post by Stokkers »

Hi all

Have a square image that I would like to convert as a circle. Have got as far as seleting the area i want, but how do I now remove the bits I don't want, or change them to transparent?

Thanks.

Invert the selection (Selections -> Invert) so that it's not selecting what you want to keep, but selecting everything you don't want to keep. Then use your delete key or the clear command (Edit -> Clear) You can also use the eraser if you want.

Thanks Levi,

I tried the eraser, but that didn't work, so I'll try your other suggestion.

I managed to remove but it is a white, will this be transparent when I place onto a coloured backgraound, or is that something else I need to learn?

There are two kinds of raster layers. Background and Raster. A background layer does not support transparency. So when you delete anything on a background layer it'll fill with the background color in your materials palette. If you need transparency you must first promote the background layer to a regular raster layer.

To do this you can either right-click on the layer and select "Promote background layer" or go to the layers menu and select Layers -> Promote Background Layer. Once you've done this, hit the delete button again.
