Hi all,
I have x7 Pro and wanted to merge mov files taken on my iphone 6splus. The files are 1920x1080 60fps. I did not have much joy with mov files and 60fps on x7 so I downloaded the x9.5 trial version.
I can join mov files with Apple Quicktime with no loss of quality.
I wanted to produce the same results with VideoStudio x9.5
I added two mov files to timeline, on the share tab, I selected mov button and created a new profile 1920x100 60fps and set the slider to 100% quality.
The resulting video is not the same quality as the source mov files I joined, in fact looked awful.
On the Windows 10 desktop, I right clicked properties->details to see the differences between source and new mov file.
The source mov files had a Data rate and total bitrate of 26260 kbps whereas the new mov file only had 5344kbps. All other details frame rate etc where the same.
Anyone know how if possible I can keep the bitrate the same or is there another way of joining mov files without loss of quality.
Regards
Ade

Re: Joining mov files
Hi, It's difficult to reflect on the trial version, but if you upload for us a short mov file we can try re-render it in the full X9 and check.

Re: Joining mov files
I think asik meant to suggest you upload the sample video to a cloud facility like Dropbox from where we could download it.

Re: Joining mov files
Ok I have created a share on my server where you can access sample files
http://ADIENAS110.myqnapcloud.com:8085/ ... id=0L41DJ0
There are 2 files
iPhone.mov - Copied straight from my phone
myattempt.mov - This was my attempt to render in Corel ( result not good quality)

Re: Joining mov files
Thanks for those clips. I have just run the original one through my full version of X9.5 and there was only one (fairly minor) problem. The audio dropped out 3 or 4 times though only for a small fraction of a second each time. I thought it might have been your iPhone which made those dropouts.
I then went to Share and selected Custom as the output. It presents mpeg-4 as the default format, and the only thing I had to adjust was to set the frame rate at 59.94 fps to match the original. The default bitrate was 29,998 kbps, which is a bit higher than what you say the original bitrate is. Curiously enough, when VS shows the Properties for your original clip, it does not give any bitrate. Audio default was AAC like the original.
I then gave the new clip a name and pressed START. Rendering was very quick. And the new clip appears to have the same quality as the original -- at least to my eyes. Very interestingly, the audio dropouts were no longer there in the new clip.
Anyway, this shows that the full version of X9.5 can certainly handle your .mov files and render to equal quality as the originals. I would have thought the trial version mpeg-4 would accept similar settings to the above. But Custom is the output you should choose rather than one of the MPEG-4 options, as Custom allows you to increase the bitrate, which was the cause of the severe deterioration in quality that you experienced. To change the settings you click on the little cogwheel icon where my red arrow is pointing below:

Re: Joining mov files
Adie,
your ipohne file is with variable frame rate. VS don't like that.
The defult MOV rendering in VS is 50% quality but that can be set to 100% as Ken showed
I received an acceptable 60 fps file with ~15Mb/sec bitrate at total ~16MB compared to your ~7.5MB file.

Re: Joining mov files
Thanks for your help on this Ken, appreciated.
Unfortunately the trial version does not give me the same options but reassuring to know it can be done with mp4.
Shame x9.5 does not allow you to specify bitrate for mov output.
I will wait and see what x10 has to offer

Re: Joining mov files
Don't get too uptight about it not coming out with the .mov extension. Your mov file is still mpeg-4 since it is in fact rendered using the AVCHD (mpeg-4) H.264 codec. FYI .mov is just a wrapper format. In other words it was IIRC developed by Apple to be able to get various other formats to play properly in Apple devices, and it spread from there to PC platforms. So in your case, your original .mov files from the iPhone are merely "wrapping" what are really mpeg-4 format clips.Adie wrote:Shame x9.5 does not allow you to specify bitrate for mov output.
