Built in support for sub-script and super-script.
The ability to turn off auto-updating the currently selected font object when selecting new settings. It's a nice idea but it's not for everyone.
The ability to draw out a textbox with the text tool. Instead of making a pre-designed selection or vector prior to writing the text. Let us also click+drag with the text tool to create a textbox.
Justified Alignment.
Auto-fit option that shrinks text to force it to fit in a confined space. Right now the text has a bad habit of leaving the text-wrapping zone and getting all screwy if the shape is anything other than a rectangle.

Re: PSP: How can Text Tool improve?
Fix the issue of the text not being saved if in a selection with a compatibility setting with earlier versions than X8.
I understand that it can't be saved as wrapped, but it needs to either warn the user that the text will be completely lost OR save the text without the wrapping so the user can still retrieve the text that was worked on.

Re: PSP: How can Text Tool improve?
They could also split the text object into multiple text objects, one for each line so the text maintains its positioning. The only thing you lose is the wrapping and the fact that it's no longer one giant text block but multiple text layers.
To add to this, let us decide how multiple lines are rendered. Top first bottom last, bottom first top last. I know this sounds bizarre but let me explain. If you have a small leading value that causes your text to overlap, the last lines appear on top of the first lines. This is to be expected. But if you want to switch it so the text looks like it's moving away from the viewer you have to re-write the lines in a different order and use a negative leading value to get the same effect. By choosing how the individual lines are rendered we can swap them and choose an effect we like.
