Selection tool not working

Post by Nickam »

I have recently downloaded PSPX9 to my computer which is running Windows 7 Ultimate. When I select the freehand selection tool and outline something the line doesn't join up and select the area when I release the mouse. Is it something within the settings that isn't right?

Can you still flood fill that selection even if it does not "show"?
Is it possible that you have hidden the marquee? Try with Ctrl-Shift-M and see if the marquee reappears.

Yes, the marquee was hidden as was shown by a tick box but even when the box isn't ticked in the menu the selection seems to work sometimes but not others.

The flood fill doesn't fill the un-shown slection.

Obviously you are choosing the Freehand Selection from the five options in the Selection Tool flyout of the toolbar. But in the Tool Options palette are you using Freehand or Point to Point? If using Freehand from those options then, for me in all versions, when I release the mouse button after outlining an object the selection completes itself. If using Point to Point you have to double-click when you want the selection to close. If you're using Freehand from the Tool Options palette and the selection doesn't close when you release the mouse button then I'm afraid I don't have an answer either.

I've tried both Freehand and Point to Point an neither work as you suggest in X9. Maybe I should try deleting the programme and reinstalling!

Have you tried resetting the program? It's faster than uninstall and reinstall. Sometimes a corrupted workspace causes a lot of weird problems with tools

I uninstalled the program last night and reinstalled it and it's now working fine. Not sure if it was reinstalling it that did the trick though as when it updated it installed update No3 and the old version had only update No 2 on it. It could have been the update that solved the problem! Anyway, all working OK now.
I would be interested to know for the future though how one goes about resetting the program?

Hold the shift key while opening PSP. It'll ask if you want to reset the program to factory defaults.
