upgrade to VS9 huge problems

Post by Peta »

I am in dire straits here. I used the trial version of VS9 for 21 days (I already had VS8) I produced two projects whilst in the trial period. I then received an email from Ulead asking "How was it" referring to the trial. They provided a link to upgrade which I followed but it led to an error page. So I went to the Ulead site, paid for and downloaded the upgrade file. (It was 177MB and took 1 hr 33mins to download although I have1.5mbps ADSL access).

I set it to install and in the process it removed the trial verison then it tried to look for a registered VS product to upgrade and couldn't find VS8 although i kept pointing it to it. My VS8 is a registered version I have the serial number and it shows on Ulead site as a registered version.

Now I cannot open the projects i created using VS9. They are in the right place on my PC but they won't open in VS8 and I am required to produce 5 DVD's and 5 VCD's for a Tuesday deadline !!!! Sadly these are not "home videos" but work projects.

I have emailed Ulead - twice - since this happened on Thursday I have heard nothing. I am desperate can anyone help me ???? Is someone from Ulead monitoring this board!! I need help.

ps I just saw Chinito's post regarding uninstalling/installing VS9 I will try the steps outlined there

A couple of thoughts that might help:

Re-download and install the trial version. That may get you past your deadline worries.

If your VS8 is a boxed edition (rather than the downloaded version) you will have the original installation CD. Parking it in a drive and getting the VS9 install to look at that usually works.

Best of luck

Many thanks for your response and advice. I have downloaded the trial version again (I had come to that conclusion to meet deadlines also!) fortunately I have 2 days of free trial left.

VS8 was downloaded - not boxed unfortunately. I am about to start the burning of the projects as they are now visible. Once I run out of 'trial time' I am stuffed unless i hear from Ulead soon.

btw I mentioned that I'd try Chinito's solution, but that assumes that VS9 is installed, the upgrade I downloaded won't even install, because it doesn't recognise my registered verison of VS8, so I can't "uninstall" it!!

Technology will be the death of me!!
