x9 Upgrade 3 won't open pspimage files
I just upgraded X9 and all of my previous pspimage files now won't open. I get the message: "Unable to open the file. Please verify that the file is valid." Much older PSP files can still be opened.
I'm running Windows 10. I tried uninstalling X9 and re-installing to no effect. I don't suppose that's very surprising as my re-install was just the download from the main site so ends up being X9 at Upgrade 3 again, a.k.a 19.1.0.29 64bit.

Re: x9 Upgrade 3 won't open pspimage files
I'm not able to offer any suggestions. All I can say is that I have X9 SP3 on Windows 10 too. Yet it has no trouble opening a variety of .pspimage files -- some of them from much earlier versions, and some from more recent versions including at least one made with X9 itself. The thumbnails show up in Organizer, and the files open properly in the workspace with no message of any kind.
Hopefully others will chime in here...

Re: x9 Upgrade 3 won't open pspimage files
Thanks for the reply. I thought I'd add in some extra details in case it helps.
I downloaded a trial version ~2months ago and started work. When the trial ran out I purchased the upgrade and continued on. I have a dozen or so new pspimage files created during this period and whilst some are large, multi layered etc.. at least one or two are quite trivial. I upgraded this morning when prompted. I now can't open a single one of those files, so it seems unlikely to me that this was caused by them becoming corrupted as I haven't touched all of them even in the last week. I have a support call in.
As you can probably guess and as I suppose is common with anyone who'd take the time to post to a forum I have lost hours upon hours of work.

If anyone knows of a way, simple or otherwise, that I could get a SP2 version of X9 running that would be something that I could try.

I would suggest uninstalling PSPX9, taking care to remove any folders, etc. left behind after the uninstall. Then reinstall and run Update 2 only.EricHalfbee wrote:If anyone knows of a way, simple or otherwise, that I could get a SP2 version of X9 running that would be something that I could try.

If you're going to uninstall, it might be a good idea to download and run the PSP9 removal tool (found here in a sticky post above).DaveQ wrote: I would suggest uninstalling PSPX9, taking care to remove any folders, etc. left behind after the uninstall. Then reinstall and run Update 2 only.

Re: x9 Upgrade 3 won't open pspimage files
But how can this be done? I originally downloaded PSPX9 from Corel's main site. When I do that now and re-install I get the patched up version including everything up to Update 3. Am I missing something obvious? I can't see where to get a non updated version?DaveQ wrote:I would suggest uninstalling PSPX9, taking care to remove any folders, etc. left behind after the uninstall. Thanks, I'll give that a go. Support have been in touch. So far they've got me to clear out Windows temp files, clear all PSP preferences and the PSP DB in app data. This didn't solve the problem. They are still investigating after asking for a screen shot of the error dialogue.

Re: x9 Upgrade 3 won't open pspimage files
Or if you still have the original trial download try and reinstall that and if that works with your pspfiles, resave them as compatible with an earlier version . Then remove and reinstall the latest version.
Good reason to only use throwaway and experimental work when testing a trial version nothing that is really important.

It's not whether it's the 'trial' or full 'version' that's at issue. That's just licensing.hartpaul wrote:Or if you still have the original trial download try and reinstall that and if that works with your pspfiles, resave them as compatible with an earlier version . I'm hoping that the older version of X9 might work (Update 2) as it was the tool recommended install of the Update 3 patch that rendered my files unloadable. Or to put it another way, which X9 version you get from the site is just a question of when you download it, not the point at which you commit to the licence.
I've searched my download history and I don't have the old installation file. Don't most people buy software this way now rather than getting a CD from a shop?

Thanks for the tip Forriner, I gave the uninstall tool a go but it didn't fix the issue. Still, probably a good tip for other issues.

Re: x9 Upgrade 3 won't open pspimage files
I realise the difference between the trial and full licence.
My point was that the trial you downloaded and used and which worked was an earlier version.
Do they update the trial version each time??, or still use the earlier version of the trial knowing that if you purchase you will download the latest version anyway.
May be worth a test anyway if nothing else is working.
When I download software I make a backup copy of that before installing.
I have a file PSPX9_PF.exe = 342905 KB which is dated 5 th August well before the updates.

Re: x9 Upgrade 3 won't open pspimage files
I don't suppose you had a version of PSPX8 before purchasing X9 did you? If so then you should try opening those pspimage files in X8 and resaving them and then trying to open them in X9. The default compatibility for saving pspimage files in X9 is X8-X9 compatible so they should open in X8.
If you don't have X8, then given the problem seems to have been cause by a Corel update, perhaps they should just send you a copy of X9 without the updates so that you can access your files. It's the least they could do.

Re: x9 Upgrade 3 won't open pspimage files
Ah I see your point hartpaul. It was indeed an earlier version. I'm only going on what I can see on the site and what I remember but I think that the timeline would look like this:hartpaul wrote:I realise the difference between the trial and full licence.

<snip>
.
1) Download the trial (actually same software as full just time limited)
2) Created some images
3) Trial elapsed, purchased a licence - possibly prompting a download but I'm really not sure
4) Created some more images, everything still works fine
5) Prompted to complete an in application update due to Upgrade 3 being made available
6) All new pspimages created now no longer accessible
At this point I tried uninstalling everything and downloading again (several times) but the only options on the site lead to an X9 installation including 'Upgrade 3'. My guess is that trial or not you just get the latest copy of the software.
I did find some updates for X9 on the site. However, these require you to have an older version - there's no rollback that I can see.

Thanks JoeB, that's useful to know and might be a possible path out of this mess. Unfortunately I don't have X8.
