Catalog disappears after ASP 3 crashing

Post by sergiopcrt »

Hello everyone,

I was importing a folder to my catalog and it froze my computer. I could only get out of it with a force shutdown (never a good idea). After re-start, ASP3 I've got the error "unable to write to disk, ASP will close" and couldn't do anything else in the program.

Then I went to the catalog folder and remove that folder (from explorer) I was imported in order to start the process from scratch. But now I can't see my catalog and if I try to open the catalog in the folder I designated in the first place I just get a "unable to open catalog".

I have already many important folders imported into that catalog, is there any way to recover that catalog? do I have to re-import all the folders to a new catalog?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I'd create a new catalog and reimport the images. In case you haven't already done this: Configure AfterShot to write xmp sidecar files even for photos in the catalog. This way you only lose the history in case of a corrupted catalog but not the modifications you have made to an image. Developing raw images is a high load process and under high load a computer is much more likely to crash so this is a nice precaution to avoid losing data. Another solution would be to create a daily backup job for the folder where AfterShot stores it's catalog files. In case of a corrupted database you can always restore the catalog folder.
