If you have the original disc from Corel,

Close all applications.
Insert the DVD in the drive. If the setup does not start automatically, navigate to the DVD drive on your computer, and double-click on Setup.exe or the Setup Application file.
Follow the instructions on your screen.

If you copied the installation files from a download to disc, place DVD in drive and double click on Setup.exe to launch installation, follow any instructions given

Hi Mal

Just to add a windows update did affect the launch of X7, you have to install the program then install a Hotfix which will allow the program to run.

View this post, scroll down for CVSX7 details and download link for the Corel VideoStudio X7 Hotfix 1

Hi Everyone

Thanks for the responses. I was able to find my an Acronis image. Reinstalled and all worked well.

Moreover sooner or later, it is time to move on to newer Video Studio.

My old data disks have a clutter problem. These disk have VSPs, copies of libraries, smart packages and other manipulated data. There is some reluctance to delete, just in case it might save time "one day"
,
What regrets can anyone face, if we delete everything, except original photos, original Video files, a copy of the final mpg or m2t files.

Please share your experience. Could be helpful in forming some clear cut strategy in cleaning data disks.

Note. (I searched. Could not find a post and hence used this post.)

Thanks and regards

Hi

When I start a new project I first open a new folder, name that with a suitable name, that folder becomes my working folder for that project.
Other projects will have there own folder.
My video files, images and audio are saved to this folder to create my project, when I save the project VSP I save it to this folder.
Now everything, well most files used in the project are saved to the same location.

Smart Package
If I want to archive the project I would first create a Smart Package of the project, that will save everything used in the project, including any VS program files. Once created I can delete the original working folder.

Larger Smart Proxy files (.upx ) files may clutter the hard drive, I clean the Smart Proxy folder after completing the project, although most may have been removed by the program, there seems to be other left overs.

Instant Projects, if you have created your own then you can keep those, recreating can take time.

To clean up a drive..........

Personally I would open each project, make sure all clips work ok, decide do I want to keep.
Yes I need this project --- Make a Smart Package, saving to a new safe location
Sometimes I may render the smart package to create a new finished video file
Repeat for other projects.

Delete all older files.

Hi,

Thanks. You have always been prompt and of great help.

1Some Smart Packages have lost links when transferred to a different location.

I can recreate links manually. I have not been able to work out why the links have broken.

Is there a spell checker to check text typed in the Titles. I have to replay the draft to see the Titles and then make a list of errors.
