I've been experimenting with geotagging in the Manage tab of PSP X8 and am puzzled by something.
I can geaotag jpg files either by using an imported GPX file or manually using the map mode and the gps data shows in other programmes too as it should
If I try to do the same with Canon CR2 files, although a marker appears on the image & on the map and I can display the postion on Google Earth from within PSP, there is a problem:
Displaying the CR2 file in other software shows no gps data and if, I convert the CR2 file to jps in PSP, no gps data is written.
I can't find where PSP is supposedly storing gps data for CR2 files. It does not appear to be in the standard position in the CR2 header and there are no XMP sidecar files.
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks.

I'm guessing that PSP does not write into a RAW file. I don't know if any data would be written into a RAW file. When a RAW file is edited in PSP it will be saved in another format such as TIFF or jpg. If you convert the CR2 file to jpg and then add the GPS data then the location will be written into the file EXIF. Just checked with some jpgs I have.

Re: Geotagging in PSP X8
In PSP itself, it appears to write gps data to a CR2 file: a tag appears in the image thumbnail and you can see its pin push on the map even if you exit PSP and they go back into it so it looks like there is gps data linked to the CR2 file somehow.

Re: Geotagging in PSP X8
I experimented with one of my RAW files. As you say, it is possible to create a location for a RAW file. I checked the EXIF data and the GPS information is not stored in the image file.
There are two databases at C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Local\Corel PaintShop Pro\18.0\Database called ImageDB.db and RawSettingsDB.db that appear to work together. If you delete or rename these files, the next time PSP is started the files are recreated from scratch. I renamed ImageDB and the Collections disappeared with its associated functions such as Faces etc. However, the location for the RAW file was still there. After eliminating only RawSettingsDB (ImageDB untouched) Collections was there and so was the place information. If both are renamed, Collections and place information disappear.
So it appears these two files work together and it appears some data is duplicated in them and that is where places information is stored. Note that it is local to the version and available only in PSP, unlike when information is stored in EXIF in an image file (as in jpgs). If you are using more than one version of PSP, such as X8 and X9, information that is stored in the DB is local to the version so you can store different places information for the same file in the two versions. So you need to be aware what is stored in the image and what is in the DB.

Re: Geotagging in PSP X8
Thanks for your research Mark; I've looked at the two datbase files but it does seem rather an odd way of doing things. What's wrong with using XML sidecar files, or even the option of them, like most other similar software does but then Corel , even when they do use them in Aftershot Pro, default to a non-standard version!
