corrupt image

Post by fndooley »

this is a new one for me and looking for some guidance from the group. happily going along editing a few stock images and I open a pic and it is totally corrupt, even though it appears fine in the thumbnail. go to different programs and open it and it looks fine. tried renaming the file, saving in a different format, etc., won't bore you with everything because nothing changed the outcome. this shot is not a must have and I should probably just delete it and move on with my life. but I am puzzled and the next time it might be a shot that I need to save. still have the original preserved in autosave and it needs work, but cannot get a suitable copy to open to edit. any advice is well appreciated.

While that image you loaded in the docx is helpful in showing what the problem is, that's about all it does. How big is the image (from File Explorer)? You could try uploading it in its original form here as an Attachment if it is not too big? Some information on where the image came from and its format might also be helpful.

thanks for the reply Ken. I am work now but will check the details this evening when I am back home. The file limitations are difficult to work with, but will compress original image and include format data.

You could also upload the full original to something like Dropbox and post a link for us to download it.

For me all these docx screen shots are pretty useless.
You say that you can open the file in another program. Can you resize that image to say 600 pixels on the longest side and resave it as the same file type .
Try and load that file into whatever version of PSP is giving you the trouble. If that file causes problems then can you load that file to the attachments section of this forum, or to say Photobucket or other site that allows sharing of files . Then we can look at the file and try and see what is causing troubles.

sorry the docx screens shots are useless. took a minute to put them together. will resize the image and load here. The reduced size image, renamed, opened fine in PSP. Also of note, when I try to open the one that sent earlier - that just shows up as a grey splatter, it always launches two of the exact same images. same file number exactly. just kind of weird.

According to the image information you included in a previous post, the original scan was a tif image. This image you just posted is a jpg. @hartpaul asked that you resize and save in the original file format, which was tif, so this jpg doesn't really help and because you changed the format it likely helps explain why it works when the original tif didn't.

how does changing the format explain why it works and the original did not. I work in tif all the time. .

I think what Joe is saying is that if your original issue was with a tif then it would be helpful to post the image as a tif and not a jpg. This way it's apples to apples and not apples to oranges.

And it's only with the original, or something in the same format as the original, which will give us a chance to see if we have the same problem...

Thanks!! Yes, my Flickr images were done in PSP.

I don't have the answer to your image issue but at least I can confirm that it's not just you.

According to your profile it looks like you are using PSPX7 so that's what I used. For some reason it opens as two images too.

The tif file opens just fine in Paint.Net which is a free program.
