Cannot install X9

Post by mathspiffy »

I'm a new user.

I downloaded PaintShop X9. The executable downloaded fine, and the first part of the install worked ("downloading"), but the "installing" portion stops at 33% then throws an error, "We encountered a problem while installing." There is no error code or information beyond this.

I tried re-downloading the executable and removing Corel registry key and restarting. Neither works. I keep getting the same error.

Any help would be appreciated. This is rather infuriating.

Are you still connected to the internet while doing the full installation? It seems the 'download' is only an installer. You need to start the installer and have the rest downloaded while still connected to the net. Yup I got caught and leaving the internet on was the key.

And, further to what @brucet told you, if the file you downloaded is approximately only 3MB in file size, it is definitely only the installer, because the installation files are large in total file size in comparison given that the program is quite large, so easily around 1GB (give or take). The Temp installation files (if not deleted upon installation) give you a good idea of how large (in MB) the full installation files actually are. If you purchase a retail DVD then you get all of the installation files. I assume the DVD versions are mostly for people who have data caps and don't want to have to download gigabytes of stuff. :-)

Not providing downloads of all of the installation files does make it more inconvenient/difficult for those who are cautious enough to want to back up such files to DVD or separate hard drives in case of computer drive failures, upgrading to new computers, etc.

It was just the installer (booo).

I managed to get a full version and just used my purchased product key to register, so it seems to be working as intended now.

Thank you!
