This might be a 'feature' of the 64bit version. Ken and I both see the DVD-NTSC label (if that's the right description) using 64bit VS, whereas asik seems to be a 32bit VS user and doesn't (see that label).

This "feature" is located in the profiles folder in your 19.0 .Davidk wrote:This might be a 'feature' of the 64bit version. Ken and I both see the DVD-NTSC label (if that's the right description) using 64bit VS, whereas asik seems to be a 32bit VS user and doesn't (see that label).

Unfortunately David I cannot support that theory - my 64 bit display correctly shows PAL

Re: Working with digital files of super-8 film
Brian,
when you snapped that clip, was it recorded at the PAL rate (25fps) or the NTSC rate (29.9fps)?
The clips I was working with were all converted from film at the (NTSC) 29.9fps rate. So altho project property was PAL, and the render specs indicated 25fps, in the share window the labels indicated both (25fps and DVD-NTSC).

The previous image was with a PAL recorded video in a PAL project
The following image is a genuine NTSC video (29.97 fps) - in a PAL (25 fps) project

Re: Working with digital files of super-8 film
FWIW, I get that NTSC label embedded in the PAL preset profiles for mpeg-2 regardless of the format of the video in the project or the project properties. I have run experiments using wmv and others using very definitely PAL mpeg-4 -- the latter setting the Project Properties to match. Yet when I go to Share > MPEG-2 I still get that NTSC label.
When I go to Custom instead, then select MPG to edit, the correct PAL label is there. But if I revert to MPEG-2, back comes the NTSC label but PAL properties.
I really don't think this is a biggie and I think the resulting video would indeed have the PAL properties. But why do only two of us get this strange anomaly?

Ken, maybe it's a "down under" thing.

Or, as Alice would say, "curiouser and curiouser".
I agree with Ken, it probably doesn't mean much but little things like this are sometimes clues to deeper issues. If we knew what it was maybe we could get it fixed in the next version.
The only pattern I could discern was the 29.9fps in 32bit vs 64bit versions. Possibly. Downunder doesn't mean much - just that we are 10 or more hours ahead of the rest of you . . . . and you are all upside down as well.

Re: Working with digital files of super-8 film
For making MPEG-2 video files, with the "Same as project settings" box unticked I get the following Properties
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
This is with X9 and using standard def PAL MPEG files, Windows 7 32-bit.
The resulting MPEG file is a PAL file!
If the "Same as project settings" box is ticked and no other changes the properties are
PAL (25 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
The resulting MPEG file is the same PAL file!

Re: Working with digital files of super-8 film
Thanks Frank. At least that confirms that Davidk and I are not the only ones who see this. Where in the PAL world do you live? David is in Australia and I am in New Zealand...

Hello Ken,
I am in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, about as far from New Zealand as I can be! The error must be in the program as it has nothing to do with the magnetic orientation of the Southern Hemisphere!

Re: Working with digital files of super-8 film
Hi
and thanks again Frank
Pal DVD or NTSC DVD
With Video Studio installed using Pal TV standards
When I go to Share Mpeg2 the default templates shows as:-
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9 being shown, should show as (DVD-PAL), 16:9
In fact all MPEG2 templates show as NTSC.
This as far as I know is only cosmetic and does not affect the render using these templates, confirmed by Frank in the above reply.
A fix
1 / If we now create a new template by pressing “+” OK, The remaining Mpeg2 templates now show as DVD-PAL
2 / Then if we wish press “-“ to remove the template, all templates remain showing DVD-PAL
Obviously a reason why some see this incorrect text and others do not.
I checked earlier versions of video studio and as far as I can tell this affects X8 and X9 programs.
and thanks again Frank
