Hello
Brand new user - just downloaded the trial version.
I have a clip in the Library panel - when I click play in the Preview Window the clip plays as normal.
But, when I drag it to the Timeline and then go back to play in the Preview Window it becomes unstable and jerks about.
TO CLARIFY: I have placed two clips in the timeline - one is 33 minutes, the other is 32 minutes.
When I click either one in the timeline and "clip" is chosen in the preview window they both play fine.
However, when I choose "Project" in the preview window then play that is when the video begins to shake and is unstable.
ALAO: I just split the second clip at the beginning into two 30 second segments, then drug Noise Reduction from FX on top of the
second 30 second clip. Upon playback, again using "clip" the segments play back ok but when choosing "project" it again becomes unstable.
What can I do to fix this? Thanks

Re: Video clip stable in Library panel but not in Timeline
My guess is your Project Properties are different than the properties of the video clips and/or there are filters that have been added to the video clips. Both of these situations require that playing the project will involve changing the videos to match the project properties and/or implement any added filters. If your pc has insufficient power, insufficient memory, insufficent or slow hard drives, this play will stutter. Go ahead and Share (render) the project and see if it plays OK in your pc; if it does not, you may need to consider upgrading your pc.

Re: Video clip stable in Library panel but not in Timeline
Please provide the Properties of the clips. To do so, right click on one in the VS timeline or library window and choose Properties. Or take a screen shot of the Properties box and upload it here as an Attachment. Do the same with the second clip if it is from a different source.
In Settings > Preferences, is the box beside "Show message when inserting first clip into timeline" ticked? If not, tick it. Then start a new project and drag the first clip into the timeline. Do you get a message asking if you want the Project Properties to match those of the clip?
You need to tell us which version of VS you are using, and also some details about your computer. Sometimes computers with less resources are not able to play certain formats smoothly. In those cases we advise people to use SmartProxy which creates a standard definition copy of the high def original. This will be easy to edit and play back. When satisfied, the edits are then applied to the originals.

Re: Video clip stable in Library panel but not in Timeline
Hi
I notice Doug is using the trial version and as such can only have SD as properties.
I doubt that show messages will be any good unless using mpeg4
Smart Proxy may help to smooth project playback
If using mts then no way to render to same, although mpeg4 may be ok

Re: Video clip stable in Library panel but not in Timeline
aljimenez - I did render and it played in the same unstable way as in the program
Ken Berry - Here are the properties
File
File Name - H:\COAHVI~1\COAH82~1\COAH82~1\MVI-0635.MP4
File Format MPEG-File
File Size 3964660 KB (3.78 GB)
Duration 1916.917 seconds
Video
Video Type H.264 High Profile Video
Total Frames 57,450 frames
Attributes 24 Bits 1920 x 1080
Frame Rate 29,970 frames/sec
Data Rate 16681 Kbps
Audio
Audio Type MOEG AAC Audio
Total Samples 92,011,520 Samples
Attributes 48000 Hz 16 Bit Stereo
Bit Rate 256 Kbps
Compared to the Project Properties: MOEG-4 files, 24 bits 1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps, Frame Based, H.264, Main Profile Video 8000 Kbps, 16:9, 44100 Hz 16 Bit Stereo, MPEG AAC Audio 128 Kbps
Yes the Show message when inserting first clip into timeline was checked and I have seen the message and said yes to letting the properties match
VS is Trial Version. PC: Windows 7 Home Premium / AMD Phenom II X6 1090T / 16 Gb Ram / Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 / VS on C drive 256 Gb SSD
Smart Preview - I did run the clips thru Smart Preview before adding effects (noise reduction). Strange results - when playing video from timeline initially plays fine but if I stop and drag it forward a few minutes it is back to degraded video. The clips still play fine when clicking on the ones in the Library.
One thing I did notice in Settings>Preferences>Performance: the following I am unable to click to enable: Editing Process: Enable Hardware Decoder acceleration / File Creation: Enable Hardware Decoder acceleration & Enable Harware Encoder acceleration / Performance Optimization: Enable Hardware acceleration optimization. I take this to mean I am running the program from the video chip on the processor as opposed to the Video Card?
lata - the file was MPEG-4 so able to get properties, which appeared to match Settings>Project Properties. It did render but played erratically like it viewed initially.
Thanks to all for the advice. Hopefully with what I have added here someone will have another idea. I am on a short timeframe to make a decision with the trial (actually trying to decide on Pinnacle Studio but that is not available for trial so trying this). I am testing this against Magix Video Pro X which has not show the same issues and plays the videos fine. But financially Corel VS is cheaper and has Noise Reduction built in vs adding Neat to Magix (works great but adds to the expense). In any case, would be great to make a fair comparison but need to get Corel VS running right first.
