VS8u stops rendering at 50% - Windows update?
So I made a video last night and everything was just fine.
But this morning I got a happy happy joy windows update bulletin message and did the usual procedure and after restart I opened up another VS8 project I was working on, finished it up, go to share, choose whatever setting and now it will render the project up to 49% ... as soon as rendering hits 50% the status bar just disappears and the temporary files also disappear from the directory at the same time...
I thought maybe I had a corrupt file somewhere in the batch so, I rebuilt the entire project from the ground up and same result... Then thought maybe it didn't like the audio track so converted it from mp3 to wav... still same... Then even omitted it and still same... Then went back and used just some random clips of junk and still same.
I had no issue last night...
Any ideas?

If everything was great last night, why you update?

Where is that directly? is it possible that the directory is Fat32?OBB wrote:So I made a video last night and everything was just fine.

You are working on two projects, how long are they?

Re: VS8u stops rendering at 50% - Windows update?
I didn't, it was one of their idiotic 3am updates... Luckily, I always save my work anyway so it was saved & closed properly (I save alot during all projects), so I did the usual power down & restart to finish applying the updates, it rebooted upon finishing the updates and then went and then opened the saved project file from last night.asik1 wrote:If everything was great last night, why you update?

Each project is about 00:03:30 in length... No, all drives are formatted under NTFS... and I have made literally 100+ videos without a hitch nor have I changed the workflow and this have never happened before. While the program itself resides on C, I use 2 separate 2Tb drives (I & J), one for my raw media & then the other drive for saving the packaged projects & also rendering the final product destination. Have been doing this for years and it makes it easy for me to reference and keep safe & sound in the event the machine were to ever go down. And I am highly doubting its the machine, dell XPS i7 maxxed out spec wise and only 7 months old.
And I also just tried tried the VS8 clean-up tool & reinstalled everything and whatever it is the problem still persists...
I even tried loading in a couple different older finished projects as well and same thing with the exception of when you are in prievew in project mode it will playback for about 1/3 of the way through and then dropuot & stop... hit play and will work for 1 second and freeze again until you rewind the entire project and then it does the same thing again... Frustrated. And also now? I noticed if I throw some random clips together to test and add some FX? I am being asked for separate product keys for Blue & Pro-dad (?)... I've never had that before either... They work but sounds like the won't now in 7 days...
Never had any of the issues... And no, it still won't rendering anything beyond 49%... and tried in every format available...

Re: VS8u stops rendering at 50% - Windows update?
Just looked at what updates were applied last night and it looks if none of them were for OS directly, they were all labeled as Windows Office updates (outlook, access, word etc..) ... which makes sense as my outlook & word layouts were all slightly modified in appearance... And also tried doing a selective startup process from boot with nothing but the bare essentials, no help... even in task manager it doesn't even spike when the rendering process stops... it just drops off the process list & graph...
Can't they ever just leave office staples the way they are for more than a month or a year or three? Or make their update process less destructive??? ... I'm beginning to seriously dislike win10 more & more everyday, even after a year in... ARGH!!!
Either way something is absolutely affecting the rendering process...

Re: VS8u stops rendering at 50% - Windows update?
OBB -- can you please change your Profile details to show that you are now using Win 10. I nearly didn't finish reading your first post because I looked at your Profile and saw Windows 7. Since I don't have Win 7 on any of my computers any more, my ability to answer questions relating to that OS is rather limited.
However, I do have Win 10 version 1607, and like you got the latest updates a couple of days ago -- on the 19th, in fact. Can you have another look at your update history? I ask since in the latest update I got only this one: Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3199209). The ones relating to Office were installed on the 13th.
I have had no problems with VS X9.5 since then, but since you specifically mentioned X8 Ultimate, I just opened that and then opened a project done with that version some time ago. It opened with no problems and I then rendered it to a new file. It completed this with no problems. I also threw together a new project with random clips ready to hand, and again rendered this fully with no problems. So it looks as though I cannot help you anyway, since I can't think of anything you have not already tried. But who knows, that Win 10 update which I have but which you appear not to have received, could be a factor...

Re: VS8u stops rendering at 50% - Windows update?
Yeaj I realized my specs were from my old machine & updated them... oops, forgot VC will do that now...
Checked all the install dates and they were all last night 10/20/16... All but one were office updates which was a C++ redistributable something file, showed no date & info but was in the same column as the others so I'm assuming it came with them. and everything before those were installed 10/12/16 before the office ones last night... It seems lately with all of these major updates it seems to wreak havoc with something in the studio here... From 25 year old printers to up-to-date recording equipment... Windows update the equivalent of PC based Russian Roulette sometimes, except you don't choose to click the trigger, they do...
Well either way, I just moved the project over to the painfully slow laptop & squinted at it to finish it... While I bit the bullet and just did a fresh install (new 480Gb SSD, Win10 & then everything else) and now 10 has been updating for almost 3 hours now?! Oh what fun... I am so sick & tired of the amount & scope of updates these days, it's mind boggling! I miss the days when it used to be fun to run a computer now it ranks right up there with doing dishes... But what ever it was, so far, it's rendering a project normally again and the one I needed done is finished & collected the check... *PHEW* Happy Camper...

asik -- with Win 10, you get no choice about updating. It happens whether you want it or not. And if you are not watching, it updates when the computer is not being used, usually early hours of the morning. Only Win 10 Pro gives you a very slight choice about when updates can be made... I have only one computer with Win 10 Pro... and it's not my main editing computer...

I know that ken, hence non of my computers or those I support have 10. All on 7 . If it ain't broken no need for MS favors, and 99% of the time indeed it ain't broken.Ken Berry wrote:asik -- with Win 10, you get no choice about updating. It happens whether you want it or not. yep... In Win10-pro all you can do is delay them until it gets angry and then forces the update... As 10's notification center reminders become nearly unbearable & interrupt everything every 5 mins.
Which is exactly what it did & why my updates show a later date... I held them at bay for almost 2 weeks...

Re: VS8u stops rendering at 50% - Windows update?
Hi OBB
Maybe a stab in the dark regarding Fat32
FX filters requesting a product key then the installation is corrupt or incorrect.
You should try reinstalling the VideoStudioUltimateX8_64bit_3Bonus.exe again, install the whole package not individual items. Installing individual items may cause the program to request activations.
There must be a reason for the program to pause render at 50%. I has assumed it to be related to one project but you seem to be having issues with other projects.
When you uninstalled the program did you choose to remove all personal settings.
If you used the Cleanup tool then it does not remove those, so if they are corrupt then you will have the same problems.
I would recommend using Program and Features to uninstall Video Studio which gives the option to remove personal settings.
I don’t think we have asked for the details of your video files, using HD video may require Smart Proxy, that will improve project playback.
Can you right click a video clip on the timeline and choose properties what are they?
Right click clips and choose Create Smart Proxy, new clips added to the timeline will have proxy files created automatically.

Re: VS8u stops rendering at 50% - Windows update?
I'm just guessing from the win update it simply corrupted something, somewhere and I suppose rather than trying to hunt & peck at a target or solution, I just performed a complete clean install of everything from the OS up & problem solved. ..even after the updates again it's working as it should now...lata wrote:There must be a reason for the program to pause render at 50%. I'm sure their next update will probably muck up something entirely different, like clockwork ...
