VideoStudio X7 crashes when capturing from DV Camcorder

Post by jcsaba »

I use Video Studio X7 64 bit. Since I updated to Windows 10 in July 2016, I wanted first time to capture video from my old Panasonic Mini DV Camcorder to hard disk, but VS X7 always crashed. In the end, I captured the video to an older version of VS (VS X5). So with VS X5 under Windows 10 capturing was OK, with VS X7 capturing failed to work.
Another general problem when capturing with any earlier version of VS is the failure of capturing the first 30-40 frames from the point where the DV tape starts. (capturing command starts the tape, capturing delays, the first 30-40 frames get missed) This is not a real problem if you can rewind the tape a bit more, but it is when you would capture video from the very start of the DV tape. With other software (e.g. NERO) at the same time, capturing starts from the point of the DV position.
Is there any suggestion how to get VS X7 to capture properly under Windows 10?

This is most likely to do with the fact that Microsoft updated the DV capture driver some time after X5 but Corel never incorporated it to work with recent versions of Video Studio, including of course X7. What you need to try is to roll back the driver to what is called the "legacy" DV driver. You'll find instructions in http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 26#p309526
