Script fails on one image but OK on another

Post by terrypin »

I have an image with just a background. I add some text. I then use a script I've used countless times but it gives the message:
"Command could not complete because there is no selection."

Yet if I switch to any other background-only JPG and do exactly the same, it works as usual.

Is it something to do with the odd fact that I found the file's properties say it somehow has 8 layers? How could that be the case anyway?

What's the script?

When it says "Command could not complete because there is no selection" it means that either it's looking for an actual raster selection, or that there is no layer selected. But hard to know for sure, without knowing what the script is supposed to do and on exactly which command it fails.

Thanks. I think the problem would have arisen on any of the many text processing scripts I use regularly, but this particular one is shown here. From Suz Shook, it draws an oval (a 'letterbox') around the selected, newly created text, and fills its background.

As I suspected it was that bizarre '8 alphas' causing the issue. I resaved the file as a JPG and on re-opening it those had vanished. The script then ran OK.

Any thoughts on how those alphas could have arisen? I was doing nothing complicated with the file.

That script saves a selection to the Alpha channel. Is it possible that you ran it several times on the same image? Or ran any other script that might save to Alpha?

Thanks, that sounds likely, Joe, probably when I was casting around trying to get it to run.
