Hi,
Not sure if you can help. I have just changed my laptop to a new one and have reinstalled videostudio 8.5. In addition I also copied and moved over the corel working folder 18 and installed that into the Corel folders in the same place. I then started the program and opened the project that I was working on. The project has opened with all the files that I had but with the exception of the title and transitions, all are showing in the black and white stripe which always showed an un-linked file. Previously I have had a window open up to advise that some files were not linked and allowing me to find the file and re-link it. This time I cannot get either the window showing the fault or the clip itself to give me a way to re-link it
Any ideas what I can do?

First try clicking on a black and white clip - that may bring up the relink offer - if that doesn't work try RIGHT clicking on the clip - and choose 'replace Video/audio' (as appropriate) then browse to the clip and select it

Re: Lost info when installing on new computer
Hi Brian,
thanks for your speedy response. Unfortunately clicking the link or right clicking the link only brings up the same response. If I then select replace clip I only get the opportunity to replace the whole clip into each segment. In other words I have to edit the whole clip again. I was hoping to find out, if possible, where the editing instructions are stored. I still have the program and edited project in situ on the old computer and so if I knew which folder it is stored in I would be able to transfer it to the new one.

The editing instructions are stored in the .vsp file - but if you find a way to read them to the point of making use of the information then as far as I know you will be the first person outside of Corel to do so

Re: Lost info when installing on new computer
Hi
You need to move all files used in your project to the new computer.
Your best option is to create a Smart Package using the old program / computer.
Then move the entire SP folder to your new pc.
The Smart Package option saves copies of all your clips used in the project along with a project file VSP
When you open on the new pc you may have to do one re-link, other than that your project should now open ok.
Although if you have used FX filters then there may be some issues, tweaks to do.

Re: Lost info when installing on new computer
Suddenly occurred to me - as this is a new installation have you checked in "Setting >> Preferences" that 'Relink checking' is ticked - in the top right corner of the general tab

Re: Lost info when installing on new computer
Hi and once again thanks for the responses.
It appears that I was a bit of an idiot, I had never spotted the relink check box and that seems to be the problem.Strangely I had managed to fix it by installing a copy of VS7 and starting in that, which obviously had the box ticked. Anyway all working now thanks.

Hi Mike
No! not an idiot, rather a change in the program, older versions always had re-link selected.
For some reason CVSX9.5 has that option deselected. Corel are aware of that change.
