Unspecified Error 5:0.0 When trying to burn DVD
Hi All
I hope someone can help me. I'm using Videostudio X9.5 and unfortunately cannot burn a DVD with the share tab.
I have imported an MPEG 4 file, created chapter points, menus etc but when I get to the output section I get the Unspecified Error 5:0.0.
I have tried various solutions from the web and this seems to be a never ending issue since X2 without anyone having a definitive solution.
I have disabled motion menus, tried various formats including MPEG 2 etc. The DVD previews excellently but when I get to the final stage I get the above error. I've even tried removing and reinstalling the program etc.
Has anyone something else I could try???
Thanks in anticipation.

Re: Unspecified Error 5:0.0 When trying to burn DVD
When you say you have tried mpeg-2, what exactly do you mean? The international DVD standard in fact requires the video on a DVD to be mpeg-2 with certain properties. So a number of us here convert our projects to DVD-compatible mpeg-2 before even opening the burning module. We'd simply select Share > MPEG-2 and normally just accept the preset Properties, or edit these if that needed doing.damiands wrote:I have disabled motion menus, tried various formats including MPEG 2 etc.
Then we'd start a new project -- not bothering to give it a name. The objective is just to empty the VS timeline. Then we'd go to Share again and this time select the DVD option. The burning module would open and its timeline should be empty. If anything is there, delete it. Then up in the top left of the burning screen, we'd select Add Video files and navigate to where our new mpeg-2 is located and insert that. Build our menu, preview it and go to the final page. Is that what you have done?
If that still gives you the 5:0:0 error, then I personally would try burning either an ISO file or DVD Folder. I'd untick the Create to Disc box. See attached image -- the red arrow points to what you have to click on to see the ISO or DVD Folder options if they are not initially visible. Then I'd burn the ISO or Folder to disc using third party software such as Nero, Roxio or the freeware ImgBurn if you don't have other options.

Re: Unspecified Error 5:0.0 When trying to burn DVD
Hi Ken
Thanks for replying so quickly. I have tried what you have suggested before but did not delete any files from the timeline after importing the MPEG 2 file into a new project. I thought you had to have files in the timeline to be able to share them on DVD or anywhere else.
I'm creating a new MPEG 2 and following the steps you suggested and will let you know how I get on.
I previously was not able to create an ISO file either with the same error presumably as a result of what you had said previously.
I'll keep you posted and thanks again for your input.

Re: Unspecified Error 5:0.0 When trying to burn DVD
Video Studio should in fact work the way you have done it in the past: do your editing, open the burning module with the project file already in the burning timeline, and proceed from there. And in fact it will do it for most users most of the time. But sometimes things go wrong, and the workflow I described above seems to fix it... most of the time!!
The problem can be that because you are simply putting the edited project file in the burning timeline (instead of a converted mpeg-2), the conversion of the project file into DVD-compatible mpeg-2 takes place as part of an already complicated multiplexing/burning process. In your case you are down-converting (I assume) high definition mpeg-4 into standard def mpeg-2 as part of the burning process -- a complicated process in its own right. In other words you are doubling the chances of something going wrong. This is why we try to separate these processes into distinct and separate steps. First do the editing, then do the conversion, then open the burning module to burn the disc. And you are not really taking any more time. The conversion will take the same time whether done separately or as part of the burning process.
One thing I should have mentioned above is to look in the Project Settings cogwheel icon in the bottom left (second from left) and make sure the box beside "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" is ticked. In X9 it is ticked by default, but you can't be too sure! With it ticked, then your already compliant mpeg-2 file will not be further converted.

Re: Unspecified Error 5:0.0 When trying to burn DVD
I did what you suggested and started a new project by loading the MPEG 4 file that I had created in an earlier version of the original project.
I then converted this into an MPEG 2 file from the MPEG 4 in that new project so the conversion was already made by me saving the new MPEG 2 to my desktop.
I then as you instructed opened a further new project and with a clear timeline went into sharing and to DVD. I again created all my menus, chapters etc and when getting to the burn stage the same error arose.
I'm at a loss.
I really don't want to spend numerous hours redoing the original project, getting timings right etc just to save it as an MPEG 2 for the same thing to happen.
This is a DVD slideshow of a wedding for a friend which also included video of the speeches etc and is 57 minutes long. You can imagine how long that would take.

I think I will remove the program again and try another reinstall. It would appear there is obviously something corrupt in the installation files.

That's a bummer... and a mystery!
Did it happen when you tried to burn to an ISO file or DVD folder instead of a disc?

Re: Unspecified Error 5:0.0 When trying to burn DVD
Thanks for all your help Ken but as far as I'm concerned this program is totally useless.
I've installed both the 32 and 64 bit versions and tried it under both with still the same error. I can in all fairness not recommend it to anyone. I think I will go with final cut pro, more expensive but at least it works. This was a total waste of time, effort and expense for a program not even able to do the most basic tasks.
I hope you are listening you developers and corel programmers out there, you have just lost a valued customer.
Thanks again Ken for your time, patience and knowledge.
Regards

Re: Unspecified Error 5:0.0 When trying to burn DVD
The program (both th 32 and 64 bit versions) work just fine. There is something in your project and/or system that is causing the error.
Have you done any tests with another short video to see if you get that error there?
BTW, no Corel developer/programmers will see your post since this is simply a users forum where volunteers try to help each other.

Re: Unspecified Error 5:0.0 When trying to burn DVD
Hi Ken
Thanks again for all your help.
I have finally solved the problem. The copy of the download which I had to reinstall the program was corrupt. Something, probably a dll file was stopping the program from producing DVD's, ISO's etc.
I downloaded a fresh installation and everything now works fine.
So if anyone else has this problem my suggestion is that rather than go through the agonising procedures I did, is to totally remove every trace of the program and associated files from the computer and reinstall a fresh download of the program.
I know that sounds quite simple and why did I not do that before but when a program works fine throughout the whole production process only to fail at the final step it feels that you are the one who is doing something wrong.
My problem was that although I reinstalled the program several times I was reinstalling my copy of the program which was obviously corrupted and thus duplicating the problem every time.
Once more, thanks again for your patience, time and effort and providing useful procedures to follow in the future.
