Do you mean the RotoPen filter supplied free in the Videostudio FX library - or are you using a different version

if the one in the FX library it works on almost any image / video - - put the image in the timeline - drag the Rotopen FX down onto it - double click on the image to open the options panel and choose 'customise filter'

if you have a different version of Prodad then I don't know

I think what fungus is asking is how to upload an image into Rotopen to use it as the image/icon that follows the drawn route?
I have tried this myself a couple of times without much success.
I wanted to upload an image of my RV to show it driving over the map showing our travels but was not able to get the transparent back ground even after creating it in PS and confirming its transparency on the video track.
I ended up giving up and using one of the images of a car that comes with the tool.
But if anyone has done this and can provide pointers would be great to hear.

yes BrianCee it's the one supplied with VideoStudio.

AussieTX is right it to be used as an Icon that follows the drawn route.
there is a link to upload an image but like you I have tried loads of files types but nothing works like the supplied pictures. it ether distorts the image or there is no transparency. I would like a picture of my car or something like it rather then the Porsche thats supplied. it should be so simple.

Yes I wasted an evening trying to get this working. The image would not show the transparent back ground and it was distorted.
The picture of my RV looked like it had been placed in a car crusher.
I tried creating the image in several editors in case it was paint shop but the end result always seemed to be the same.
Love to hear if someone has success with this.

I think I have cracked it - transparent .tif seems to work

I did it two ways - first I found the symbols used by pro-dad here - - C:\Program Files\proDAD\HeroglyphRoute-4.0\clipart\app (and neighbouring folders )

I modified one of them by deleting the existing image and adding a new one and saving as a transparent .tif - worked fine

then I created an image from scratch (the pumpkin) and saved that - attached as zipped image for testing to see if it only works for me or others

so I made a screen capture video of me using it - see that here https://youtu.be/2JDhSa36vUI

and the image I made is here

Hi

Brian that image works ok
I have been looking here for the images, but not found all used in rotopen???
C:\Program Files\proDAD\HeroglyphRoute-4.0\clipart\cp2\image

I did try editing those images and also saving my own, finally I managed using Photoshop.
But using Corel Paint Shop Pro I cannot save a transparent tiff, that’s another problem, probably just me hitting the wrong buttons.

I don’t like or use roto pen but would create a transparent png then customise motion would do the trick.

I use this feature routinely and it works fine if your traveler symbol has a transparent layer. You can see an example of a custom traveler symbol (Russian nuclear icebreaker) that I modified to use with Rotopen at the following URL:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRRy6t5K3R4#t=00m10s

I modify my traveler symbols using mspaint and then import them into GIMP where I add a transparency layer and then export them as a TIF and finally use Rotopen's Load Image option to select the custom traveler symbol.

brilliant! it works :D
I downloaded GIMP and installed it imported an image I made in PS set the transparency saved it.
tried it in VS-Prodad rotoscoping and it works no distortion... brilliant. so simple really why can't we do that in PaintShop?

This a little off topic for this forum but visiting Murmansk in the 80s would have been unusual.

Now back on topic: This summer, I watched a Delta IV ballistic missile submarine sailing down the Murmansk Fjord to start its patrol. I'm working its photo into a video that includes Rotopen :D

Yes it does, but you should be aware that if you put too many Rotopen filters in a reasonably complex VSP, VS will crash while rendering. Rotopen is just one of the filters that VS has issues with, another one is Mercalli.

thanks for that tletter.
I tend to render only the rotopen bit to video then import it to my project. I know it long winded but i have had problem with that sort of thing in the past with other filters and special effects.
