After I finished my first project, I shared to 16:9 AVI... and noticed audio glitches
Looking at the preset's default settings, it creates an audio interleave every 15 video frames
So I cloned that to a custom preset, with an audio interleave for EVERY video frame... problem solved
Size @15 1,194,337 and @01 1,194,592 so only 255 bytes for a 1:1 ratio is a very small difference to fix the problem

Re: AVI Sharing - Problem AND Solution
Which AVI format did you choose i.e. which codec did you choose when you decided to output in AVI? Uncompressed AVI, or DV/AVI, or XVid/DivX? Or something else?

Re: AVI Sharing - Problem AND Solution
The top left selection on the Share screen... the only thing I changed when I copied to a new preset was the interleave factor, I didn't change (or even look at) anything else
Changing the interleave setting from 1:15 to 1:1 fixed the audio, so I'm happy with the cloned/modified preset

Re: AVI Sharing - Problem AND Solution
The basic reason I was asking which particular format of AVI you were using is because there are over 800 different formats which use the AVI extension -- though VS of course offers only a handful.
You say you chose the default which appears when you select AVI in the top left of the Share screen. When I do that, the default format is DV/AVI format -- see attached image, red arrow. But you say you were producing 16:9 video, when that default -- at least in my VS X9 -- shows as 4:3 (green arrow). Did you change that element (i.e. 4:3 changed to 16:9) as well as the audio interleaving? If not, does the final rendered video show any letter-boxing?
The good news in any case is that DV/AVI is an excellent format to edit and convert into other formats; and all the better since you have fixed the audio glitch before any further conversion. The only problem in a sense, though, is its size. It runs at about 13 GB per hour of video. OK if you have lots of storage space, or are you intending to convert the final DV/AVI into another format e.g. DVD which requires conversion to mpeg-2?
If you are intending to convert it to something else, then another thing you need to be aware of is that DV/AVI uses Lower Field First. However, just about all the other formats these days use Upper Field First and Frame Based/Progressive. The VS preset defaults for those other formats reflect this. So if, say, you are converting to mpeg-2 for burning to a DVD, then you would need to change the VS default from Upper to Lower Field First. Otherwise you will get very distracting flickers and jagged edges on vertical straight lines...

Re: AVI Sharing - Problem AND Solution
The two default AVI options I have are...
DV (720 x 480, 4:3, 60i)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 4:3, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 2
Interleave audio for every 15 frames
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
and
DV (720 x 480, 16:9, 60i)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 16:9, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 2
Interleave audio for every 15 frames
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
To work with my HiDef video, I saved an alternate widescreen version as...
DV (720 x 480, 16:9, 60i) - 1
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 16:9, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 2
Interleave audio for every 1 frames
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
I was only testing the various share options, so really wasn't going to DO anything with the AVI file I created... and, in fact, I deleted it (and my 1:1 interleave file) after concluding my test
As far as space... I have 4 SSD drives (before Win10 and it stopped working properly, I was using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 for my home video, so I know about drive setup)
Samsung 256Gig for Windows and all software + Crucial M550 256G for project and temp files + Crucial M550 512G for all assets + Crucial M550 128G for all output
I also use a docking station and several "bare" platter drives for backups http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-SuperSpe ... B0055PL2YI
Right now, before doing any more work (in other words, wife is not rushing me to see our vacation video) I am watching tutorials and learning... so my next video will have transitions and effects, not just a "plain" playback
