SONY DV camcorder no longer shows up as capture device

Post by ggrussell »

I recently upgraded another photosuite/video editor and ever since that install, my Sony camcorder does not show up in UVS8 a a capture device. Yes, it shows up in Device Manager and I can use it in all the other applications. Just very strange that Ulead doesn't see it at all. In fact, when I turn on the camcorder and dialog box pops up asking to choose the app to use and UVS8 is there. I select that and it still doesn't recognise the device.

Is there a registry entry that I can check?

Select Tools->Select Device Control and change Current device to MS-1394.

And then check http://www.ulead.com/learning/video7/page1.htm and http://www.ulead.com/learning/vs.htm .

Hope this helps.

The device control WAS/IS set for MS 1394. Going through the tutorials won't teach me much. I've been doing this for years. The camcorder works perfectly fine in ALL OTHER applications. I wouldn't bother even fixing this, but I like Ulead's interface better. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled twice and that didn't fix the problem. The 8.01 patch didn't either. What I find strange is that is was working perfectly fine before I installed Adobe Premiere Elements and that shouldn't have affected it all. Plus the fact that installing Adobe didn't affect any of the other video editors, this could just be a coincidence.

I unplugged everything (usb also) and when I went to CAPTURE got - 'Can't initialize capture plugin'. Sounds like a DLL didn't get registered, but I would think reinstalling the software would fix that.

I had same proble when I swithed from UVS 6.0 to 7.0. I beileve SONy has its own 1394 driver which is not same as Microsoft 1394 driver and I was able to download Switcher utility from Ulead's website and switch to MS driver and that fixed the problem. Try to do search on 1394 driver on ulead's site and see if they still have that utility and if not I cna email you

FIXED IT

WoW... what a silly thing. I read through the Ulead Knowledge base. From some really odd reason, UVS8 defaulted to Window's VFW drivers instead of the DirectShow drivers.

All I had to do was go under TOOLS, Change Capture Plug-in and change it DirectShow.
