.mts files changed to proxies

Post by Bimbing »

Hello, I am running VS X4 and during Create video file, all my .mts files were changed to proxy files. It never happened before and don't know why this time the .mts files were automatically changed. Now, I have to edit my .vsp files and obviously, the clips in the Library needs re-linking. How could I re-link them, other than comparing the clip # in the library with the proxy date-stamped which is really very time consuming?
Any advise, please. Thanks. Bimbing

maybe these .mts files are bigger than you have used before - maybe HD - maybe widescreen ?

but you do not have to do anything special or different when you use proxies - it happens automatically - when you have finished editing and go to "Share" Videostudio automatically applies all the changes made to the proxies to the originals and renders the originals to you output

In Preferences > Performance, is the box beside "Enable SmartProxy" ticked? If you don't want to have proxies created automatically, then untick the box...

Brian, no the .mts files are of the same size as before. The problem was after I created the .mpg file and playing it back before burning, there was some flutter and others, that I needed to re-edit. But upon opening the .vsp file, all the clips in the Library needed re-linking. In the past when this happened I simply find the .mts files in TULE_AVCHD folder and re-linked them. Now, the TULE_AVCHD folder is gone and instead are the ... proxy files. I don't know which proxy files belongs to to the clips in the Library that need relinking . In the project I am working on, there are over a hundred clips that need re-linking....!. From this I learned that in the future, I need to make a backup of the TULE_AVCHD files.

I have no idea what a "TULE_AVCHD" folder is.

If the "create Proxy files" was disabled then no proxy files were ever created.

If any relinking is required then 1) the original source files were deliberately deleted or 2) moved

It stands for Transfer Utility LE, something to do with transferring from camera to computer, Canon use it

how do you know they are proxy files - what folder are they in on your PC - what sort of names do they have

if they really are proxy files then "Settings >> Smart Proxy Manager >> Smart Proxy file Manager" will identify which .mts belongs to which proxy

Is the 'TULE_AVCHD' folder always visible on your computer - or is it only visible when your camera is plugged in

In past projects, during the rendering all mts files remain in the TULE_AVCHD folder and grouped by date, so the folder is always visible without camera. It is visible in Windows Explorer. The folder is created by Pixella, the transfer software that came with the canon camcorder. So, when I open VS, I simply click "File" > "Insert media File to Library" in which case I click the mts files of the desired date and then edit to a vsp file. Then after Create Video File (rendering) the TULE_AVCHD folder remains intact (visible) with all the mts files under it.
This time, after the rendering the TULE_AVCHD folder disappeared with the the mts files and in its place is a list of proxy files. The "enable smart proxy" was UNchecked. Some of the proxy files are of the type: ~proxy, here is part of the list: ~proxy_00036.mpg, ~proxy_00037.mpg, etc.
Then below follows a different list of this type: ~proxy_2016051611159.mpg, ~proxy_2016051611259, etc. the 2016 is the year and the 0516 is the date May16 and the series of numbers behind is the file #

I guess the second list can be used for re-linking by comparing the date & number of the mts file with the date & number of the proxy file.
The 1st list causes problem in identifying.

I did a Search for TULE_AVCHD in Windows Explorer and the search turns empty. I thought that it night be in the Recycle Bin, but they are not there.
