X9 does not recognize Matrox codec
Playing around with VS X9 Ultimate (download, full version, not trial); I tried to load an old introductory avi file encoded by Adobe Premiere CS3 using the Matrox I-Frame codec. It would not load either to the timeline or the library. I then tried the same file in both VS X5 and VS X6 and they both accept the file without a problem. Is this because X9 is 64 bit and the other programs are 32 bit?

Re: X9 does not recognize Matrox codec
My guess is that codec has probably been dropped from support rather than being related to 32 or 64bit. If you use a program like Mediainfo to display the video properties in more details it might help to diagnose the problem better. You can also try Format Factory to convert the video file to a more modern format; I am hoping Format Factory can support your file format.

Re: X9 does not recognize Matrox codec
Hi aljimenez
Had not thought of the codec being dropped because of age, could be, hope it does not happen to old geezers like me!! My jpeg was too big, trust there is sufficient information to be useful, no audio details, but can be supplied if necessary.
Thanks for interest.

You can also try HANDBRAKE. It's free, makes use of all your cores, and exports to a file format VS likes.

Re: X9 does not recognize Matrox codec
You are the second one with an interlaced video file; those old interlaced formats were such a pain. I am so happy we are all through today with that.
Some strange things about that video file. Original resolution is 4:3 but somehow it has been changed to 16:9 (I don't know what that means). I recommend you use one of your old VS programs that you say read the video file and render (Share) the video file to something more modern so that VS X9 can digest it.

Re: X9 does not recognize Matrox codec
Also, it states that the frame rate is 25 fps (PAL) yet shows Standard as NTSC

Re: X9 does not recognize Matrox codec
Many thanks for replies.
Robert - I had noticed the MediaInfo discrepency 25fps/NTSC??
aljimenez - I think the original graphics were 4:3 and I used the CS3 "Interpret footage" to get 16:9 aspect ratio. The exported CS3 Matrox codec file must have noted this.
I'll now try to update my basic video files to more modern formats; tried to be efficient (lazy).
