Import file size limit

Post by erdna »

Is there any maximum size/duration known for a (single) file to be imported into VSX9? I have a 44GB (~4h duration) file which VSX9 does not accept.

I can't imagine anyone having experience with this size of file; I certainly don't. Whatever the limit is, working with such a large file would not be pleasant. There are a number of programs that cut videos at appropriate places and that is what I recommend you do.

Is this one of your 4K videos, André? Or is there anything unusual in the format? That being said, I too am not aware of any specific size limitation in VS, but would agree with Al about cutting it into smaller, more manageable pieces if that doesn't destroy the integrity of what is on the video...

Hi Ken, the clip has been shot bij a 4K cam used in HD mode (XAVC-S HD (MP4)@~20Mbps/720p). The format is tested OK for VSX9 with a shorter clip. The camcorder recorded a show during ~4h and could not be operated during the event. The recording media was an exfat formatted SDXC cad which doesn't chop up to 4GB parts. An SDHC (Fat32) would have done it...too late.
Btw Al do you happen to know a cutting program which accepts 40+ GB MP4 clips without recoding?

I have used tsmuxer before: http://www.videohelp.com/software/tsMuxeR and one of its many features is to cut a video file. I hope it has been updated to handle newer formats.

Thx Al. Indeed the newer (iso2) MP4 containers as used in the XAVC-S and HEVC formats are not working in TSmuxR 2.6.12

I was afraid of that. My Panasonic GH4 splits large video files in the camera. There is a menu item Video Divide in the playback menu. Perhaps your camera also has this menu item.

Thanks again Al for yr tip. Indeed there is a build-in split function in the camcorder, but unfortunately only fot AVCHD modes, not for XAVCS which is a pitty foa a 4K camcorder (Sony FDR-AX33)

My next suggestion is the Sony forum for you camcorder about what to do. It appears the Sony video format is not widely supported yet.

I installed this "Play Movie Home" program some time ago and the user interface looked too confusing to me and uninstalled it right away. I will play the movie on an LCD screen and film the pieces I need right from the screen using my HD camcorder.
