I think I asked this question once before but that was when I had VS Ult. x6. Now I have VS Ult. X9. So I'm wondering if there was an update as to combining clips.
Here's what I'm doing....I made a demo video...actually 5 videos, because my camera will only record 3.99 gb's, then I have to record another and so on. So I have a total of 5 videos on the tmeline. Now I have to edit/cut them to edit out the pauses. So the result would be many different clips...maybe 100 or more when I'm done. Then I want to do some effects like transitions and such, but I would like to do it as if it's one video which would make it much less time consuming.
So my question is, can I combine the 5 videos into one before I get started with all that editing?

Re: Combining clips
Yes of course you can, though I am not sure I see the point. Once you have made the single video, you are still proposing to do the same editing, cutting out unnecessary bits, adding transitions etc. So as far as I can see you would be still ending up with 100 or more smaller clips in the timeline. Or have I missed something?

Re: Combining clips
I'm currently working on a project in X7 that has short clips from some 3GB MP4 files. I'm finding it very difficult to work on this project because X7 frequently crashes and when it does, the Smart Proxy files must be recreated which takes a long time.rkstudio wrote:actually 5 videos, because my camera will only record 3.99 gb's
I think that you'll find working with 5 large videos in a single project may be a challenge.rkstudio wrote:So my question is, can I combine the 5 videos into one before I get started with all that editing?

Re: Combining clips
Instead of combining all 5 clips into one (before editing), edit each clip as a stand-alone project and render each project to a separate video clip. You can then combine the 5 rendered clip into your final clip.
You would of course save each clip as a project file so that you can come back later and make some more edits. This way you can speed up the edit/render process

Well, I just wanted to have one clip in order to not have to time-lapse 5 different clips, or more if I had other movie clips to work with. I thought maybe there would be a scotch tape filter or something. haha.
I actually worked with the 5 clips separately after I asked this question and it really wasn't very difficult. I guess I could also use the "Copy Attributes" option when I have clips I want to copy them to also. I was just trying to save a little time, but I see your point about what's the point?
